ANCOR LAUNCHES GIGABIT BACKBONE LAN SOLUTIONS

Fibre Link integrates gigabit backbone LANs, legacy LANs and desktop LANs

Minneapolis, MN -- September 25, 1995 -- Ancor Communications, Inc.
(NASDAQ: ANCR) today announced a series of new products that allow
customers to build ANSI-standard Fibre Channel backbone networks with
integrated high-performance connectivity to other LAN technologies. This
development extends the role of the Company's products into backbone
network applications requiring both high-performance and interoperability
with legacy LAN technologies such as Switched Ethernet, Ethernet, Token
Ring, FDDI and ATM.

Tim Donaldson, Ancor's Vice President of Sales and Marketing, said "Our
customers have a tremendous amount invested in their enterprise networks,
but are finding that legacy LAN technologies don't have enough bandwidth
to keep up with the demanding requirements of backbone network
applications. Fibre Channel can solve this problem by putting gigabit per
second (Gbps) bandwidth in the backbone, far more than any other
technology, and giving customers a means of increasing network capacity
through linear scaling. Ancor's new products give customers a
cost-effective approach to implementing Fibre Channel in the backbone
network while leveraging their investment in existing technologies."

FIBRE LINK CONNECTS LEGACY LANS TO FIBRE CHANNEL'S GIGABIT BACKBONE LANS

The Company's announcement centers on its new FCS 1062 Fibre LinkTM that
provides connectivity between Ancor's 1.062 Gbps Fibre Channel switch and
legacy LANs. The product provides support for industry- standard
networking protocols including TCP/IP and Novell IPX. LAN Interface
Modules are available for Switched Ethernet, Ethernet, Token Ring, FDDI
and ATM. This product joins Ancor's existing Fibre Link product, the FCS
266 Fibre Link, which provides connectivity between legacy LANs and
Ancor's 266 Mbps Fibre Channel switches. The FCS 1062 Fibre Link has a
starting price of $14,995 and is available immediately.

FIBRE CHANNEL TO SWITCHED ETHERNET NOW AVAILABLE

The company also announced a new LAN Interface Module for both members of
the Fibre Link family that provides high-performance connectivity between
Switched Ethernet networks and Fibre Channel fabrics. Each Fibre Link
system can support up to 24 Switched Ethernet ports, each supporting
dedicated bandwidth of 10 megabits per second (Mbps). The Switched
Ethernet Expansion Module is available immediately and has a U.S. list
price of $2,995 for 6 Switched Ethernet ports.

NOVELL AND WINDOWS NT DRIVER SOFTWARE

To complete the upgrade path, Ancor also announced Novell and Windows NT
driver software for the Company's FCS 266 and FCS 1062 PCI Adapters. Said
Donaldson, "PCI-bus architecture is rapidly becoming the dominant platform
for Novell and Windows client/server environments, but taking advantage of
PCI's tremendous speed requires much greater bandwidth than is offered by
legacy LAN technologies. Ancor's new software drivers let our customers
connect their PCI servers directly to the high-performance Fibre Channel
backbone using their native protocol. Except for providing dramatically
increased bandwidth, the Fibre Channel backbone is completely transparent
to both the end-user and the enterprise network administrator." Novell and
Windows NT driver software for the FCS 266 and 1062 PCI Adapter is
packaged within the list price of the adapter cards.

Ancor Communications Incorporated (Nasdaq Small-Cap Market: ANCR) is the
leading provider of networking products based on Fibre Channel, an
ANSI-standard communications technology used to build the world's fastest
local area networks. The Company's products include Fibre Channel
switches, adapters and application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs).
Ancor was founded in 1986 and is headquartered in Minnetonka, Minnesota.
