New Monitor Is Apple's Most Affordable Full-Page Display

Apple Introduces Multiple Scan 1705; Updates Apple Multiple Scan 20

CUPERTINO, California--October 16, 1995--Following through on its
commitment to providing the most affordable computing technologies to an
ever-widening range of users, Apple Computer, Inc. today announced the
availability of the Apple Multiple Scan 1705, a 17-inch color display for
$819 in the U.S. This low price puts larger screen size and sophisticated
multiple scan capabilities well within the grasp of customers in business,
education and consumer markets. Apple also announced significant
enhancements to the Apple Multiple Scan 20 Display, a monitor popular with
publishing, high-end graphics and technical professionals.

"The Multiple Scan 1705 is an ideal display for small and home business
users who need a larger monitor, but operate on limited budgets," said
Brodie Keast, vice president of product marketing at Apple Computer, Inc.
"The Multiple Scan 1705 offers an excellent alternative to users who might
normally purchase a smaller 15-inch monitor, but who desire the larger
screen size and higher performance found in the 17-inch displays.
Similarly, improvements to the Multiple Scan 20 Display provide the
performance required by Apples most demanding customers and underscores
our commitment to extending our strong lead in graphics, publishing and
multimedia."

Apple Multiple Scan 1705 Display

The Multiple Scan 1705 uses the latest 17-inch (15.8-inch viewable image
size), flat-square, shadow mask picture tube with a 0.28 mm dot pitch for
sharp, clear images. It provides an excellent solution for general
business tasks like word processing, creating presentations, and working
with spreadsheets. Multiple scan technology lets users switch to the
resolution most appropriate for the work being done. For Macintosh users,
Apple provides software that allows users to easily switch between three
different viewing modes: page-layout mode, for viewing two full pages
simultaneously; publishing mode, which provides 72-dot-per-inch resolution
for everyday work; and presentation mode, which mimics a 14-inch color
monitor. PC-compatible users enjoy a similar range of resolutions. Maximum
resolution is 1024 by 768 at 75 Hz for Apple Macintosh systems, or 1280 by
1024 at 60Hz for other personal computers. The monitor comes with a PC
video adapter, so it can be easily used with either Apple Macintosh or
personal computers running various operating systems including the MacOS,
OS/2 and Windows95.

The Apple Multiple Scan 1705 features an advanced anti-reflection screen
coating to reduce glare and improve user comfort. Conveniently located
digital controls permit adjustments for brightness, contrast, size and
centering, including trapezoid and pincushion for optimal viewing
convenience. The monitor complies with leading worldwide standards for
power management and electric and magnetic field emissions, including MPR
II and EPA Energy Star requirements. With a U.S. Apple price of just $819,
the Apple Multiple Scan 1705 Display is Apples most affordable full-page
display.

"The market for 17 inch displays has become increasingly competitive, with
much more cross-over from the Intel world into the Macintosh market," said
Joan-Carol Brigham, senior consultant with International Data Corporation,
a leading provider of technology analysis and consulting. "With this
announcement, Apple is showing its willing to play hardball and offer
larger, cross-platform displays at competitive prices. Ultimately, it's
the customer who wins."

Apple Multiple Scan 20 Display

The updated 20-inch display (19.1 inch viewable image size) lets users view
more than two pages of text and graphics on the screen simultaneously,
making it an ideal solution for publishing professionals, high-end
graphics and technical professionals, and business users working with
large spreadsheets and presentations. Like its predecessor, the Multiple
Scan 20 Display provides users with "on-the-fly" resolution switching
capability and easily attaches to computer platforms in addition to Power
Macintosh, including the MacOS, OS/2 and Windows95. Digital front panel
controls offer a convenient and intuitive means of customizing screen
geometry. Control over three preset white-points selections (5000, 6500,
9300 degrees-K) lets users simulate different viewing environments. The
Multiple Scan 20 Display is compliant with leading worldwide standards for
power management and electric and magnetic field emissions, including MPR
II and EPA Energy Star requirements.
