AT&T toll-free multimedia service for voice, data and video

October 2, 1995 -- BASKING RIDGE, N.J. -- AT&T today announced 800
Multimedia, a new digital toll-free service that allows MEGACOM 800
service customers to integrate voice, data and video applications on a
single 800 number without affecting the setup, features or pricing of
existing voice services.

With AT&T 800 Multimedia, MEGACOM 800 service customers can retain the same
quality voice features and pricing of existing toll-free services while
adding the ability to handle today's greater-bandwidth multimedia
applications.

800 Multimedia offers the full features of AT&T WorldWorx 800(sm) service,
including the ability to integrate voice, data and video on one call over
a single toll-free number with customized routing. However, 800 Multimedia
enhances those features with the ability to price voice and high-speed
data calls at different rates. Customers pay for modem and voice calls at
their regular MEGACOM 800 rates, and Switched 56 kbps or clear channel 64
kbps calls at 22 cents per minute for peak hours and 19 cents off-peak.

"Our customers have told us that the multimedia services they want must
have integrated voice, data and video capabilities, while protecting their
investments in existing 800 applications," said Sally Muscarella,
marketing vice president for AT&T.

"AT&T 800 Multimedia not only provides that integration, but also gives
customers the flexibility to bill voice, data and video calls separately.
It's just one more example of AT&T's commitment to bring 800 service into
the multimedia age," Muscarella said.

800 Multimedia uses the intelligence of the AT&T network to determine if
the call is voice or data speed, and then routes it across the AT&T
network and bills it at the designated rate per minute. As a result, 800
Multimedia lets businesses enhance their existing, popular toll-free
numbers with multimedia applications and keep the quality, cost or call
processing features of their current voice services.

For example, a financial company can use 800 Multimedia to enhance its
800-number customer help desk by allowing customers with multimedia-
capable PCs and high-speed network connectivity to use its existing
toll-free number for on-line access to account data. Even when they don't
have access to a PC, clients could still receive a voice update or talk to
a representative by contacting the firm on the same 800 number.

The company benefits by having the flexibility to use a single 800 number
to interact with customers through voice calls -- with the full set of
features, capabilities and pricing of their existing voice network -- or
through multimedia sessions with clients using their PCs to collaborate on
data files, transfer files, or set up video teleconferences. At the same
time, the firm pays for those multimedia calls -- at different data rates
-- only when they are used.

800 Multimedia supports Integrated Digital Service Network (ISDN) access,
but it does not require it. All users with connections to an ISDN-capable
end office (including connections of 56 kbps), a Basic Rate Interface
line, and a multimedia-compatible PC can enjoy 800 Multimedia's unique
simultaneous voice, data and video image functionality.

Anyone can launch an 800 Multimedia call to a MEGACOM 800 service customer
regardless of the callers' local service provider or long- distance
carrier, and the service supports multimedia equipment from a variety of
manufacturers.

Customers will see 800 Multimedia calls on the MEGACOM 800 portion of their
bills. Calls are grouped by voice and data type, and customers can receive
call details -- including data rates -- using AT&T's 800 Network
Management Reports.

AT&T announced WorldWorx 800 in June, 1994 as its toll-free multimedia dial
tone service that combined the convenience of 800 number calling with the
power and intelligence of voice, data and image applications.
