AT&T announces trial for dialup Internet service

October 27, 1995 -- BASKING RIDGE, N.J. -- AT&T today announced that AT&T
WorldNet dial-up Internet service is now undergoing trials across the
country in preparation for commercial availability in the first quarter of
1996.

Individual users began testing the service exactly on schedule as AT&T had
promised two months ago. The service will provide easy- to-use, reliable
dial-up access to the Internet for both consumers and businesses.

"People have different personae to match the roles they play at work or at
home," said Tom Evslin, AT&T vice president for Gateway Services. "We
designed the service around those personae -- AT HOME -- a page featuring
a collection of sites focused at leisure issues, education, children, etc.
and AT WORK -- which points to business news sites, investment information
and other issues of interest while at work. From either of these pages
customers will be able to use easy-to- use navigational tools,
sophisticated search agents and directories."

AT&T WorldNet dial-up service will be accessible from business and home,
from any place in the nation and with the same ease of use the telephone
offers. AT&T will gradually grow the trial to include a larger number and
a wider range of users. To date, the company has completed preparations in
110 cities to handle modem speeds of 28,800 kbps (28.8 baud), the highest
data-transmission speed for most consumer dial-up access to the Internet.

The AT&T WorldNet dial-up service will include features that will make
using the Internet an easier and a richer and more useful experience. The
McKinley Reader will provide useful summaries and a directory.
Sophisticated search agents from Verity Corp will help customers find
information. Harley Hahn, author of Internet Yellow Pages is creating a
monthly edited guide to the Internet called the Exploration Station.
Acrobat document-translation will make it easier to print and manipulate
items.

AT&T's dial-up service will be provided with a pre-configured AT&T- branded
Netscape browser. In addition, AT&T WorldNet Services will be compatible
with other industry browsers.

AT&T will integrate its dial-up service with its existing AT&T WorldNet
Managed Internet Service offer for businesses, which became available
nationwide on September 1.

Expansion to full availability of the dial-up service will occur early in
1996. Pricing details and other information will be announced at that
time.
