AT&T international version of EMMI Multimedia Interface

September 27, 1995 -- ATLANTA, Ga. -- Access to full-motion, desktop
videoconferencing and other collaborative applications just got easier for
international computer users.

At the Networld-Interop trade show here today, AT&T announced an
international version of its EMMI Multimedia Interface. A domestic model
has been commercially available since February 1995.

The notebook-computer-sized unit connects to personal computers (PCs) and
workstations, allowing users to simultaneously send and receive
full-motion video, high-speed data and CD-quality stereo audio over ATM
(asynchronous transfer mode) networks.

Like its U.S. counterpart, the international interface processes video and
audio internally. As a result, users' computers suffer no performance
impact while running memory-hungry multimedia applications.

Carrying all the functionality of the original EMMI interface, the new
international unit incorporates a PAL video codec for easy video
compression/decompression. The new model also connects to international
telecommunications networks via the SDH (synchronous digital hierarchy)
standard, and features a universal power supply.

EMMI units are being used in a variety of distance learning and
telemedicine trials throughout North America, the Asia-Pacific region and
the United Kingdom.

To learn more about how AT&T's EMMI Multimedia Interface can meet your
collaborative applications needs, call 1-800-GET-EMMI. Those attending the
Networld-Interop show September 27-29 can see a live EMMI system
demonstration at booth number 852.
