AFRO America gets help from AT&T to establish Web site

SEPTEMBER 26, 1995 -- BALTIMORE, Md. -- AFRO American Newspapers (the
"AFRO"), a 103 year old chain of African American newspapers, today
announced an agreement with AT&T which will result in its establishment as
an important presence on the World Wide Web of the Internet through its
new "AFRO America" home page.

With the introduction of AFRO America on the Internet, African American
history will for the first time have a presence on this world wide
information network. Through the graphic and interactive capabilities of
the Internet, the AFRO is presenting a new look to its massive archives,
which detail the historical role of African Americans in the 20th
century.

By drawing on one of the most extensive archive collections in African
American history anywhere, AFRO America promises to be one of the most
exciting new sites yet to emerge on the World Wide Web. The introduction
of the new AFRO America is the result of recent sales and marketing
agreements with AT&T.

Through the use of AT&T's InterspanR Frame Relay Service, the AFRO is
establishing a wide area network connecting its branch locations in
Baltimore, Md., Washington, DC, and Richmond, Va., as well as with its
Maryland-based printer. The network will also provide each of AFRO's
locations with direct access to the Internet.

"The efficiencies we expect to realize from this new network will
substantially change the way we do business," says Jake Oliver, chairman
and CEO of the AFRO. "We're also excited about the opportunities that
direct access to the Internet will provide us. Not only will we be able to
use the Internet as a resource, but we can showcase the enormous archive
of materials we've accumulated over the past century."

Dan Schulman, vice president of marketing for AT&T's small business
division recently signed the agreement with the AFRO.

"I'm very excited about this agreement because it not only supports AT&T's
mission to help minority and women-owned businesses, but it demonstrates
the value of AT&T's technology within the African American community,"
said Schulman.

The AFRO AMERICA home page is located on the World Wide Web at
http://www.afroam.org and is also accessible through AT&T's home page at
http://www.att.com. AFRO America was recently named one of the the top 100
business sites by Interactive Age magazine.
