Bay Networks Provides Network Infrastructure for InteropNET at
NetWorld+Interop '95 Atlanta

-- DELIVERS OVER $5 1/2 MILLION IN EQUIPMENT AND NETWORK ENGINEERING TO
INTEROPNET -- -- ACHIEVES NETWORLD+INTEROP'S DIAMOND CONTRIBUTOR STATUS
--

ATLANTA, Ga., September 25, 1995 -- Bay Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: BNET) today
announced that its multiprotocol routers, intelligent hubs, high-speed
switches, and network management products are providing network
infrastructure for the InteropNET network on view at the three-day
NetWorld+Interop Atlanta '95 Conference and Exhibition. Contributing over
$5 1/2 million in internetworking equipment to the high-speed local area
and wide area network, Bay Networks has earned NetWorld+Interop's Diamond
Contributor status. Additionally, the company has provided two senior
engineers to the network operations center to assist in the architecture
and deployment of the InteropNET.

Designed by industry experts to emulate today's complex, multi-tiered
networks found in the largest corporate enterprises, the InteropNET
connects over 600 major networking exhibitors and supports local and
remote site connectivity, multiple media and protocols, and stable and
emerging enterprise applications. In addition to connecting networking
vendors on the show floor, the InteropNET provides multiple network
connections to both the global Internet and the Mbone via PPP and Frame
Relay, and external connectivity to local hotels hosting conference
sessions, workshops and tutorials via Frame Relay.

Supporting the show's dual ATM and FDDI backbone networks, Bay Networks has
installed 7 Backbone Concentrator Node (BCN) routers, 2 Backbone Link Node
(BLN) routers, 1 Backbone Frame Relay Switch (BNX), and 5 Access Stack
Node (ASN) routers throughout InteropNET. The company also has deployed 10
LattisCell ATM switches, 15 System 5000 switching hubs, 8 Model 28115 100
Mbps LattisSwitches, 2 Model 28104 100 Mbps LattisSwitches, 5 Model
100BASE-T hubs, 30 Model 2814SA Ethernet LattisHubs, 10 Model 2715SA
LattisRing Token Ring concentrators, and 10 Model 514 100 Mbps Ethernet
transceivers.

In addition, the InteropNET network operations center team has integrated
Bay Networks' network management products into the show's network control
center. The company's Optivity Internetwork 6.0, ATM Network Management
application, and ATM Connection Management System are the core
applications used for the configuration and management of the Bay Networks
network devices.

"As a full scale, operational network incorporating multiple topologies,
protocols, and connection types, the InteropNET gives networking vendors
the unique opportunity to demonstrate the multiprotocol connectivity and
multivendor interoperability capabilities of their installed and emerging
internetworking solutions within a complex, real-time network
environment," stated Robin Littlefield, Bay Networks' principal engineer
on the network operations center team. "By deploying its high-speed
routing and switching equipment and network management products throughout
the InteropNET, Bay Networks not only demonstrates its commitment to
industry standards, complete connectivity, and multivendor
interoperability, but also provides the InteropNET's dual backbones,
interconnecting and managing multiple LAN, WAN, and network operation
center networks."

Supporting the entire exhibit and conference area, Bay Networks'
internetworking products deliver 100BASE-TX and 100BASE-FX Fast Ethernet,
ATM SONET OC3, FDDI, Ethernet, Token Ring, HSSI and synchronous
connectivity while providing the infrastructure for several emerging
technology demonstrations, remote site network services and wide area
connectivity. In compliance with industry-defined standards, InteropNET's
protocols include IP, IPX, and AppleTalk Phase 2. Routing protocols for IP
include OSPF, RIP, BGP-4 and DVMRP, and NLSP and RIP for IPX.

Bay Networks, Inc. is a leading worldwide supplier of a full range of
multiprotocol routers, intelligent hubs, high-speed switches, and
sophisticated network management products for organizations building
enterprise-wide information internetworks. Established in October 1994
through the merger of SynOptics Communications and Wellfleet
Communications, Bay Networks generated and now has combined revenues in
excess of $1.3 billion for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1995. With more
