BBN Launches New World Wide Web Site

CAMBRIDGE, MA--BBN, the company that built the forerunner of the Internet,
unveiled a new and improved corporate Internet presence, "BBN on the World
Wide Web."

Like many corporate Web presences, the BBN site includes detailed
background on the company and its array of services and products. But
unlike a typical corporate site, BBN has included a variety of feature
articles, commentary and information intended to help readers better
understand how the interactive era is impacting people in every walk of
life.

The new site, which can be found at http://www.bbn.com, highlights a
segment called "Sound Board," designed to spark commentary from industry
luminaries, such as Dr. Charles Ferguson, co-founder, chairman and acting
CEO of Vermeer Technologies, Inc; and Bill Bluestein, co-director of the
People & Technologies Group at Forrester Research. Each commentator takes
a position on tools that companies will use in the future to facilitate
internal and external communications. Other sections of the site feature
information on new developments in Internet use, together with analysis
and real-world examples of the impact of interactive technologies.

"BBN has long been a leader in the development of cutting-edge commercial
technologies, and our Web site provides yet another example of BBN putting
its Internet technologies to use," said George H. Conrades, president and
chief executive officer of BBN. "It has been designed to encourage a
two-way dialogue between BBN executives and our key constituencies and to
act as a conduit for the discussion of industry trends and ideas. We hope
our site will speak to those who have an interest in Internet business use
and in solutions for global collaborative computing."

BBN uses its own BBN Web Advantage (SM) service to support this venture on
the Internet. Web Advantage is the service offered by BBN's subsidiary,
BBN Planet, which gives companies a unique business solution on the Web
through a dedicated server at one of BBN Planet's network centers.
Included with the Web Advantage service is BBN Planet's security service,
Internet Site Patrol (SM), which will also be incorporated in the Web
site.

The site will be updated monthly to focus on different products and various
areas of BBN's capabilities. The first month features an in-depth look at
BBN's educational capabilities, as well as the company's Personal Internet
Newspaper (PIN Paper), a technology that scans the Internet to find news
articles and other information matching a user's profile.

"BBN on the World Wide Web" offers advantages to a broad range of
audiences. The financial section now allows investors and analysts quick
and easy access to all of the company's key financial numbers. The
information is accompanied by trend analyses with detailed graphs charting
the company's revenue.

Headquartered in Cambridge, Mass., BBN (Bolt Beranek and Newman Inc.,
NYSE:BBN) is a leading provider of internetworking technologies and
services, data analysis and process optimization software and
collaborative systems for commercial customers, government agencies and
educational institutions. The company pioneers technology to help people
work and learn together, including: Internet access services, speech
recognition for the "virtual call center" market and data visualization
and process optimization software for the manufacturing and health
industries. BBN posted revenue of $215 million for its fiscal year ended
June 30, 1995.

*Web Advantage and Internet Site Patrol are service marks of BBN.*
