Send wireless text messages from Internet Web documents with ChipChat

(CAMP EXPO - Chicago IL) A new, updated ChipChat Wireless Communicator is
now shipping which includes support to allow World Wide Web (WWW) authors
to easily add wireless text message capability to their web pages. The
announcement was made at the CAMP Expo (Corporate Association for
Microcomputer Professionals).

The ChipChat Wireless Communicator is a software product for OS/2 which
sends text messages to wireless pagers. It includes an easy to use object
interface for OS/2 Warp and also has a command line interface which is
easily called from other programs, including Rexx. The latest version of
ChipChat includes the ability to be called from the IBM GoServe Internet
Server software. Using ChipChat and GoServe, a web author can include the
ability to send instant wireless messages in their web documents.

One application of this is a company who offers 'Premier Support Services'.
Password filtered customers will be able to fill out forms on web pages
and have the text transmitted immediately to a text pager. A technician
receiving the message could call back with an immediate personal
response.

Another application is to allow a company with different types of
computers, such as OS/2, Windows, Macs, and Unix workstations to access a
single 'corporate wireless pager directory' via the web. The 'server' runs
ChipChat and GoServe on OS/2. The 'clients' can access the web pages and
send a wireless message from any computer with web capability.

"This new ChipChat makes it very easy to include instant wireless
communications on World-Wide-Web pages", said Marty Cawthon, president of
ChipChat Technology Group. "We developed it out of our own need to provide
instant support 24 hours/day, 7 days/week to our large international
corporate customers."

The latest ChipChat Wireless Communicator is version 1.5 and has a
manufacturers suggested retail price of $99. It is available immediately
at competative pricing from Indelible Blue (1-800-776-8284), IBM Desktop
Software Direct (1-800-342-6672), Greater Chicago Online]]
(http://gco.com), and from ChipChat-Direct (313-565-4000 and
http://www.chipchat.com).

GoServe is a multipurpose server for OS/2 which supports both the
World-Wide-Web (HTTP) and gopher protocols. GoServe scripts (filters) can
be written using Rexx. GoServe was written by Michael Cowlishaw, an IBM
Fellow in the UK and the inventor of the Rexx language. GoServe is
available at no charge, and can be downloaded from many OS/2 file sites
(filename is GOSERVE.ZIP). The home page for GoServe is:
