CompuServe Goes Hollywood:
New "Internet Unlocked" Video Helps Novices Surf The Net

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Oct. 2, 1995 --The best way to learn the basics of the
Internet is no longer sitting in a stuffy classroom and reading a stodgy
book--it's laying on your couch and watching the tube. CompuServe has
teamed up with Los Angeles-based Osprey Film Productions to create "The
Internet Unlocked," an easy-to-understand video that opens up the
complicated world of the Internet to cyberspace novices. The
double-cassette package also includes the CompuServe Internet access
software and the CompuServe Information Manager for Windows (WinCIM).

"We hope to use this video to educate people on the basics of the Internet
and commercial online services, like CompuServe," said Tom Cullivan,
CompuServe's director of Advertising. "We want to take the mystery out of
the Internet, and the best way to do that is to show people just how easy
it is to use and enjoy." What's On TV?

"The Internet Unlocked," running approximately 90 minutes, uses screen
shots and easy to follow discussions to illustrate some of the most basic
aspects in the usually complex world of cyberspace. Topics covered include
accessing the Internet; using an online service; creating and sending
electronic mail; using Telnet and File Transfer Protocol (FTP); exploring
the World Wide Web; finding and reading Usenet newsgroups; using Internet
relay chat; and employing search tools like Archie and Gopher.

"We hope that the jargon-free, non-technical presentation will help
alleviate some of the `fear' novice computer users have about the
Internet," Cullivan noted. "The focus is on the graphical interfaces and
common uses that millions of people will be experiencing as the Internet
becomes more and more a part of our everyday lives. We think it is
important to help people understand how to use it and how much they can
gain from a trip out into cyberspace."

Cullivan added that CompuServe hopes the video will open up the Internet to
a wide range of users. "We want to distribute this video to schools,
libraries, computer groups, public television and anyone else who wants to
help people take that first little step into the Internet world."
