Fisher-Price and Compaq to Make Toys

HOUSTON -- Compaq Computer Corp. and Mattel Inc.'s Fisher-Price unit have
teamed up to develop, manufacture and market a new line of eduction- and
entertainment-oriented products for children. The companies say the new
products will use both hardware and software technology and are expected
to be introduced in mid-1996 through the PC and toy channels.

According to the companies, the new alliance represents an important moment
for each company as it combines efforts of the world's leading makers of
computers and preschool toys to provide new and engaging ways for young
children to harness the power of their multimedia PCs to play and learn.
The companies noted that 30 percent of the 18 million U.S. households with
multimedia personal computers have children under the age of seven.
