Coriolis Group to Launch VIZ: Visual Developer for Windows 95, Internet
Programmers

October 1, 1995--Scottsdale, AZ--The Coriolis Group, Inc. today announced
that it will launch a new print and online publication for
productivity-driven visual programmers developing applications for Windows
95, OS/2 Warp, the Internet, and the World Wide Web.

VIZ: Visual Developer, will be the first major programming magazine to
champion application development for the Internet and the World Wide Web,
with heavy editorial emphasis on new and emerging visual technologies
including HTML, VRML, and Java.

Visual Basic, Visual C++, and Delphi, the programming languages used
primarily in the development of Windows-based applications, will star most
heavily in the VIZ lineup. Visual client/server tools, including
PowerBuilder, Personal Oracle, SQLWindows, Clarion, and others, will
receive major coverage. Software component products will be featured in
the DLL, VBX, OCX, VCL (Delphi), and Java apples formats.

Windows Programming with Visual Basic. Visual C++, Delphi

Three columns will focus on Windows programming. Acclaimed author Peter
Aitken (Visual Basic Programming EXplorer, Teach Yourself C in 21 Days,
and many others) will focus on high-end Visual Basic development.
Long-time Windows columnist and author Al Williams (Commando Windows, DOS
and Windows Protected Mode) will address coding issues and new visual
tools relating to Visual C++ 4.0 and the Microsoft Foundation Classes,
with an emphasis on creating world-class C++ object-oriented applications
in a time-efficient manner. Columnist and author Ray Konopka (Developing
Custom Delphi Components) will target Borland's Delphi, addressing all
three of the major Delphi disciplines: visual tools, component
integration, and component creation. Ray will slant his coverage toward
business-related programming, from data validation issues to client/server
technology.

Internet Development with HTML, VRML, Java, Winsock, CGI

Online content and application development are a major focus of VIZ, with
features on Internet programming with HTML, VRML, Java, Winsock, CGI, and
HotJava from well-regarded authors like Dave Roberts (Developing for the
Internet with Winsock), Robert Mudry (Serving the Web), Tom Campbell, John
Penman, and many others. "Wild Pointers," a regular feature of Visual
Developer, will highlight the growing multitude of online developer
resources available through the Internet and other sources. All VIZ
example code will be available through the Coriolis Web Site
(http://www.coriolis.com), along with editorials and articles that will
not appear in the paper publication.

Software Components: Plug-in Programming for the 90s

VIZ will emphasize component-oriented software development. A column on
using components will be initiated by Tom Campbell, long-time component
development expert. Reviews and product roundups of component products
will appear in VIZ. Coverage of creating software components will be a
featured in regular columns by Peter Aitken (Visual Basic), Al Williams
(Visual C++), and Ray Konopka (Delphi).

According to Editor-in-Chief Jeff Duntemann, "PC TECHNIQUES (VIZ's
predecessor) had been leaning more and more toward visual tools for the
last two years. The actual content of the magazine had evolved a long way
from its DOS-oriented beginnings, and it was time to change our focus and
address the challenges of creating software for a Windows-based, networked
world."

"VIZ is for the productivity-driven programmer," said Duntemann.
"Productivity is the engine behind the emergence of RAD (Rapid Application
Development) and visual technologies generally. Our audience needs to get
a job done, and they need to get it doen fast -- without sacrificing
quality. Visual is the only way to get there from here."

VIZ will launch as a bimonthly magazine with the February/March 1996 issue,
available at newsstands in mid-January. VIZ will replace PC TECHNIQUES as
The Coriolis Group's flagship publication.
