COMPUWARE ANNOUNCES ECOCONNECT FOR CLOSE INTEGRATION BETWEEN ECOTOOLS AND
PARTNER PRODUCTS

Compuware Provides EcoTOOLS Customers with Out-of-the-Box Connections to
Network Management, Help Desk and Enterprise Console Products

FARMINGTON HILLS, MICH. - OCTOBER 2, 1995 - Compuware Corp. today announced
EcoCONNECT, a new component of the company's EcoTOOLS systems and
application management product, which gives customers built-in connections
to the industry-leading network management, help desk, management
frameworks and enterprise management console products.

In conjunction with EcoCONNECT, Compuware announced close technical and
strategic partnerships with Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Remedy, Sun
Microsystems, and Tivoli - the premier vendors in each of three key
product areas.

"Customers typically use a variety of 'best-of-breed' products to support
their production applications," said Ron Gleason, general manager for
Compuware's EcoTOOLS products. "These include application performance
tools, network monitors, problem management software for the help desk,
console and administration products and often others."

"Many of our customers have integrated third-party management products with
EcoTOOLS in the past," Gleason said. "Now with EcoCONNECT, Compuware is
packaging the technology links so all of a customer's management
applications can work together. Best of all, the customers do not have to
do the integration work themselves or pay extra for a vendor to do it."

EcoCONNECT supplies IS departments with "systems integration in a box," an
easily implemented two-way link between leading third-party products and
EcoTOOLS' application-focused fault, performance and event management
capabilities.

Starting today, the new EcoCONNECT component is included at no extra charge
with every copy of EcoTOOLS 3. For each EcoCONNECT partner, Compuware
provides:

 * Seamless, out-of-the-box integration between the partner
   product(s) and EcoTOOLS
 * Full technical support for the EcoCONNECT integration component
 * In-depth documentation of the connectivity
 * Management summaries outlining the integration
 * Strategic partnerships with each participating vendor and
 * Consulting services for implementation assistance

SEAMLESS CONNECTIVITY BEYOND "BROCHURE-LEVEL" INTEGRATION

With this initial announcement, EcoCONNECT provides integration with HP
OpenView Network Node Manager, HP OpenView OperationsCenter, IBM NetView
for AIX, Remedy's Action Request System (AR System), SunSoft's Solstice
product line and the Tivoli Management Environment (TME). EcoCONNECT
provides facilities to share information between EcoTOOLS and each
product, providing "launch-in-context" and menu- level support, allowing
administrators to bring specialized, focused software products to bear on
specific problems. The robust connectivity available today through
EcoCONNECT goes far beyond the typical superficial "brochure-level"
integration supplied by many vendors.

EcoTOOLS and EcoCONNECT use several industry-standard communication
mechanisms. The mutual EcoCONNECT product links are tailored specifically
to each third-party product. EcoCONNECT uses SNMP, event adapters,
messages, specific integration links or a combination of these mechanisms
to provide customers with seamless connectivity.

Because of standard communication technologies, adding new links through
EcoCONNECT is straight forward. Compuware will continue to add and
document ties to additional packages through EcoCONNECT in coming months.
Work is underway to include out-of-the-box integration with the Cabletron
SPECTRUM network management product, Oracle's forthcoming "Mission
Control" management platform, Sybase's Enterprise SQL Server Manager and
other third-party products.

The formal EcoCONNECT partnership program ensures continued close
interaction between these companies, their products and EcoTOOLS, and
leads toward expanded integration and future synergistic product
development efforts.

CONNECTING TO NETWORK MANAGEMENT PRODUCTS

EcoCONNECT provides facilities to share information back and forth between
EcoTOOLS and HP OpenView Network Node Manager, IBM NetView for AIX and
Solstice SunNet Manager. Tying into network management products means that
EcoTOOLS can notify network administrators about database and
application-related problems and their resolutions. DBAs are also given
network hardware information that could affect the availability of their
database servers.

"Our customers demand tight integration between the OpenView Solution
Framework and industry leading applications like Compuware's EcoTOOLS,"
said Richard Wolle, HP OpenView ISV program manager. "EcoCONNECT makes it
easy for our joint customers to develop an integrated management solution
leveraging the best of what HP and Compuware bring to the table."

"Compuware EcoTOOLS has always been an active proponent of Sun's enterprise
management products - Solstice," said Walt O'Maley, senior product manager
for Solstice. "Sun is pleased to work closely with Compuware to provide
our joint customers with out-of- the-box integration and continued
cooperation."

HELP DESK INTEGRATION

By connecting EcoTOOLS with help desk and trouble ticketing applications,
IS departments resolve technical problems much more quickly. EcoTOOLS
identifies a problem, gathers detailed problem data and then opens a
related trouble ticket within the Remedy Action Request System. The person
assigned to resolve the problem can fix the problem with the information
EcoTOOLS provides the AR System, or rely on EcoTOOLS to launch a
corrective action.

"Users of the Action Request System have much more information at their
disposal by integrating EcoTOOLS with the AR System," said Tim Lee-Thorp,
business development manager for Remedy. "The integration of the AR System
with EcoTOOLS reduces the amount of time help desk staff spend rooting out
the source of problems, resulting in faster problem resolution and higher
satisfaction for our customers."

ENTERPRISE OPERATION CONSOLES AND ECOTOOLS

HP OpenView OperationsCenter and the Tivoli/Enterprise Console serve as
enterprise-wide operations management consoles. These products can serve
as the central administrative backbone of an IS department. With
EcoCONNECT, EcoTOOLS can forward critical performance data to the main
enterprise console. Administrators can then drill down into EcoTOOLS and
use its capabilities for managing the fault and performance problems of
ORACLE, SYBASE or Informix applications to automatically start corrective
maintenance. Linking EcoTOOLS to these enterprise consoles provides
administrators with both breadth and depth of management capability from
one screen.

"By using the Compuware and Tivoli products together customers have an
integrated, top-flight solution for their systems and database management
needs," said Bruce McFarland, strategic partnerships manager for Tivoli.

"The intelligence and control built into both products are perfect
complements for each other. Through this strong partnership with
Compuware, customers have access to cross-discipline functionality for
heterogeneous systems and database event management."

ECOTOOLS: KEEPING DATABASE APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE

EcoTOOLS enables database and system administrators to monitor their
applications; Oracle, Sybase and Informix databases; UNIX operating
systems and TCP/IP networks for fault and performance problems. EcoTOOLS
dispatches autonomous software "agents" to gather enterprise- wide
performance and configuration information, alert system administrators to
potential problems and then automatically launch proactive corrective
actions.

The EcoTOOLS real-time process monitoring option called EcoPMON enables
administrators to drill down and find bottlenecks by viewing the UNIX
resource usage of actual running SQL statements, assistance unavailable in
any other product. In addition to detailed troubleshooting capabilities,
EcoTOOLS also provides robust console management, graphical real-time and
historical management reporting and security monitoring. The EcoCHARGEBACK
option provides integrated UNIX and Oracle resource accounting.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

Starting today, EcoCONNECT is a standard component of EcoTOOLS. EcoTOOLS
supports the monitoring and management of Oracle, Sybase and Informix
applications on all major UNIX platforms. EcoTOOLS pricing begins at
$23,000 and is based on system configuration.
