Digital To Support Novell NetWare 4.1 SMP on Prioris HX PC Server Family

MAYNARD, MASS., - SEPTEMBER 26, 1995 - Digital Equipment Corporation today
announced its support for Novell's NetWare 4.1 Symmetric MultiProcessing
(SMP) software. NetWare SMP, in combination with Digital's Prioris PC
servers, will enable users to attain high network performance and enhanced
processor scalability, thereby providing maximum longevity for customers'
PC server investments.

"As hardware technology becomes more progressive and software applications
more complex, the latest network-based applications demand strong
multiprocessor performance," said Duane Dickhut, vice president of
Digital's Prioris PC Server Product Line. "With NetWare 4.1 SMP and
Digital's Prioris SMP PC servers, users can attain ease of use and
integration into Novell's enormous installed base when upgrading to full
symmetric multiprocessing capabilities to enhance network performance."

"Novell's partnership with Digital's PC servers offer customers a complete
client/server networking solution," said Richard King, executive vice
president of Novell's Systems Group. "Our mutual customers will have
access to Digital's world class service and support network as they
transition to full SMP client/server architectures."

Digital's award-winning line of Prioris PC servers incorporates balanced
system design for maximum server performance while maintaining aggressive
PC price points. The Prioris HX family of high-performance application
servers - for which NetWare 4.1 SMP is ideally suited - achieves the
industry's most balanced system design by matching Pentium power with the
greatest number of high-bandwidth PCI slots of any competitive PC server.
Additionally, the Prioris HX server offers greater full- system
expandability and processor scalability than any other PC server in its
class.

In addition, Digital offers the entry-level Prioris LX PC server and the
midrange Digital Prioris XL Server. These PC servers effectively span the
range of file, print and network server applications by balancing power
and price to match a wide range of general business server demands for
small- to medium-sized workgroups.

Novell NetWare 4.1 SMP is an add-on service native to the NetWare 4.1
network operating system that enables the use of a multiprocessor hardware
platform. NetWare 4.1 SMP provides increased scalability and processing
power at the server and can also improve overall server performance
through multi Threaded base modules which allow code to run on more than
one processor simultaneously.

Digital's Prioris dual processor and multiprocessor PC servers support the
widest range of operating environments, including Novell NetWare 3,
NetWare 4, NetWare 4.1 SMP and Novell UnixWare; Windows NT Server 3.5, SCO
Enterprise; IBM OS/2 SMP; Banyan VINES; and Digital PATHWORKS.

All of Digital's Prioris PC servers are covered by a three-year, on-site
limited warranty, with next-business day response standard from Digital's
Multivendor Customer Services organization or a Digital channel partner.
Digital's full line of Prioris PC servers deliver maximum investment
longevity through balanced system design and robust fault-tolerance.

Digital Equipment Corporation is the world's leader in open client/server
solutions from personal computers to integrated worldwide information
systems. Digital's Intel and Alpha platforms, storage, networking,
software and services, together with industry-focused solutions from
business partners, help organizations compete and win in today's global
