DIGITAL STORAGE PRODUCT WINS INDUSTRY AWARDS

StorageWorks RAID Array 230 Selected "Best Product" in BYTE Magazine and PC
Digest RAID Array Product Reviews

MAYNARD, Mass. -- October 5, 1995 -- Digital Equipment Corporation today
announced its StorageWorks RAID Array 230 subsystem received "Best Overall
Product" awards from two influential industry publications. Introduced in
July, the RAID Array 230 topped 16 competing RAID subsystems tested by
National Software Testing Laboratories (NSTL) for head-to-head product
comparisons in the September 1995 issue of BYTE Magazine and in the July
1995 issue of PC Digest, (volume 9, number 7).

The September BYTE Magazine named the StorageWorks RAID Array 230 "Best
Overall Product," "Best for Database Servers," and "Best for Audio/Video."
In the "Overall Product" category, the RAID Array 230 received top scores
in a range of critical areas, including optimum performance, breadth of
features and ease of use, topping solutions from Clariion Advanced
Storage, Conner Storage Systems, StorageTek Distributed Systems Division,
and others. In the "Database Server" category, benchmark scores were
analyzed, and the RAID Array 230 was determined to have the best
performance among the 16 arrays. In the "Audio/Video" category, the RAID
Array 230 received the highest overall ranking when using disk storage for
audio/video applications.

"The Digital StorageWorks RAID Array 230 Subsystem was the clear overall
winner in our testing. Its fast performance and wide range of features,
including redundant and hot-swappable drives, power supplies, fans, a
sixth drive for a hot spare, and a write cache with battery backup, placed
it well above the other subsystems tested," wrote Michele Guy, NSTL
Project Manager. "The StorageWorks RAID Array 230 is also one of the least
expensive units we tested."

In addition, the July PC Digest rated the StorageWorks RAID Array 230
number one, awarding the product four stars out of a possible five with
top ratings in performance, features and usability.
