LEADING ENTERPRISE SOFTWARE VENDORS LINE UP TO SUPPORT INTEL-BASED AViiON
SERVER LINE

WESTBORO, Mass., October 11, 1995 -- Data General Corporation said today
that most of the industry's leading enterprise software vendors have
already ported software applications to the company's forthcoming line of
Intel-based AViiON servers.

"Well before we announced that we would expand our AViiON server line with
Intel based systems, we had been working with the industry's leading
software developers," said David Ellenberger, vice president of AViiON
Marketing for Data General. "The results have been most gratifying. All of
the major database vendors and the leading enterprise application
developers either have already completed porting their software or will
complete the port within the next 30 days."

The list of partners includes such leading companies as Computer
Associates, Informix, Oracle, PeopleSoft, Pick Systems, Progress, Sybase,
Unidata and VMark.

Data General has worked closely with its software partners, providing them
with early versions of the new Intel servers running the latest release of
the company's DG/UX operating system, DG/UX 4.1. Since DG/UX 4.1 runs on
both the Intel and the company's current Motorola based AViiON systems,
porting and recompiling of applications has been greatly simplified.

In addition, the company has given each of its partners a porting guide and
full set of tools, including a DG/UX software development kit, debugger, C
Compiler, C++ compiler and performance monitor. Data General engineering
resources also have been assigned to each partner to provide personalized
assistance and, in some cases, to offer onsite support.

Computer Associates

"We have been very impressed with the performance and quality of the new
Intel based AViiON. The port is progressing with no surprises," said Marc
Sokol, vice president, Product Strategy for Computer Associates. "We have
many clients who rely on the AViiON/CA-OpenIngres combination to deliver
high performance in a highly available environment, and CA-OpenIngres for
the Intel based AViiON platform will provide a significant boost in both
dimensions."

Informix Software

"Informix has worked closely with Data General to optimize the performance
and scalability of OnLine Dynamic Server on the new Intel- based AViiON
servers," said Kathy Gogan, vice president, Corporate Partner Marketing,
Informix Software, Inc. "Our combined technologies will provide our mutual
customers with the ability to manage larger and more complex database
applications on a high-performance SMP server."

Oracle Corporation

"We are pleased to have Oracle7 as well as a broad suite of applications
and applications development tools ready for release on the first day of
shipping for the new Data General systems," said Thomas Hildebrand, vice
president, UNIX RISC Products Division for Oracle Corporation. "Oracle
will provide a full range of solutions, from office management to
financial systems for the new AViiON Intel family."

PeopleSoft Incorporated

"We are excited about the expansion of Data General's AViiON line with the
introduction of the Intel-based systems," said Frank Strelau, vice
president of Business Development for PeopleSoft Incorporated. "We plan to
make the full line of PeopleSoft products available on the new platform."
