ERICSSON READIES PLUG-AND-PLAY WIRELESS DATA FOR WINDOWS 95

October 2, 1995 -- Connectivity will become increasingly important as users
begin taking advantage of Windows 95's enhanced networking, support for
mobile computing and unified mailbox for fax, e-mail and voice mail. For
the growing number of workers whose primary computer is a notebook PC,
wireless data communications will allow them to stay connected and make
use of these advanced features from remote locations.

Ericsson has developed a wireless solution allowing users, regardless of
their location to access group, corporate and public information services
as if they were sitting at a desktop PC connected to the office LAN.

The wireless office platform, which will be demonstrated for the first time
at Telecom 95 in Geneva, is based on ODBC and MAPI, two industry-standard
APIs that are core components in the Windows Open Services Arc hitecture
(WOSA). Using newly developed firmware for Windows 95 and Windows 3.11,
Ericsson's wireless office platform supports ODBC and MAPI connectivity
across Mobitex and GSM networks. The product thus functions as wireless
middleware to extend client/server systems to mobile users.

"Database access, e-mail, fax and file transfer are just as essential on th
e road as they are in the office. Because the application mix needed by
dif ferent users results in varying data communications requirements, it
is important to support both packet-switched Mobitex and circuit-switched
GSM net works. With Ericsson's software and support for Plug and Play in
Windows 95, the transport method can vary. Users can hot-swap a Mobidem PC
card modem, a GSM modem card or a PC card for the office LAN as needs
vary," says Bengt Carlstrom, general manager, mobile data terminals, at
Erics son Mobile Data.

"The wireless office platform shows true vision in combining Ericsson's
world-leading wireless technology with advanced Windows features. We look
forward to continuing to work with Ericsson so that Windows users can
enjoy the freedom of wireless computing," says Rolf Skoglund, vice
president, Microsoft Europe.

A beta version of the wireless office platform has undergone extensive
testing and is currently being used internally within Ericsson. General
availability is scheduled for April, 1996.

Ericsson's 80,000 employees are active in more than 100 countries. Their
combined expertise in switching, radio and networking makes Ericsson a
world leader in telecommunications.
