MARKETING LISTS ON THE INTERNET POINTS ONLINE MARKETERS TO THEIR
COLLEAGUES

COLORADO SPRINGS (October 15, 1995) -- Business marketers interested in
connecting with their on-line counterparts can obtain a free copy of the
October 1995 issue (Volume 2, Issue 10) of Marketing Lists on the Internet
(ISSN 1084-7391), a directory of marketing-related email discussion
groups, newsgroups and forums. Marketing Lists on the Internet includes
subscription and posting information, along with email and archive
addresses for more than forty currently active groups. For historical
purposes, references to defunct marketing groups are also included.

Kim M. Bayne, president of wolfBayne Communications and moderator of the
HTMARCOM list, has been publishing and distributing free copies of
Marketing Lists on the Internet, in both electronic and print versions,
since 1994. During this time, she's seen the interest in on-line
marketing-related discussion and announcement groups grow dramatically.
Ms. Bayne credits the acceptance and tremendous growth of on-line
marketing as the catalyst.

Marketing-related Internet groups cover a variety of topics, including
public relations (PRFORUM, HTMARCOM, MARKET-L), market segmentation
(MKTSEG), and Internet marketing. As the number of on-line marketers has
grown, groups have expanded and split off to discuss more narrowly defined
topics. For example, HTMARCOM, an email discussion group for high tech
marketing communicators, gave birth to four new lists on marketing with
technology-based tools. In the next several months, Ms. Bayne anticipates
seeing more group 'spin-offs' focusing on trade shows, sales leads, agency
management, sports marketing, and advertising planning and placement.

Marketers can get free copies of the expanded electronic edition of
Marketing Lists on the Internet:

* on the World Wide Web at
   http://www.bayne.com/wolfBayne/htmarcom/mktglist.html
* through anonymous ftp to ftp://usa.net/users/wolfBayne/
* on the newsgroup news.answers
* by sending email to lists@wolfBayne.com
* in selected forums on CompuServe, America Online and Prodigy

Single free copies of the abridged printed newsletter edition of Marketing
Lists on the Internet are available:

* through the US mail, in exchange for a self-addressed stamped #10
business-size envelope

* at presentations given by Kim Bayne and others at various industry
conferences, seminars and meetings

On-line marketing group discussions typically range from how-to,
entry-level activities (i.e. "how to select a marketing agency" or "how to
justify ROI") to high-level marketing strategies and tactics (i.e.
"product positioning" or "pricing issues"). Most newsgroups and lists
cover several different subjects simultaneously. Subscribers may
participate in these discussions at their own pace and comfort level, or
simply read postings without comment.

One advantage of these on-line forums is their ability to conveniently
mimic the traditional luncheon meeting of professional organizations,
without the normal time and travel commitment. Marketers who exchange
email through newsgroups and lists routinely share tips and techniques for
effective marketing, trade resource information and evaluate services.
Lists and newsgroups can consist of participants who exchange information
in an atypical, non-competitive manner. Most groups have mentors,
marketing veterans who share their knowledge with entry-level marketers at
no charge.

Excerpts from Marketing Lists on the Internet appear in selected marketing-
and Internet-related magazines, newsletters and books, such as "The Online
Marketing Handbook" by Daniel Janal (VNR, 1995) and "World Wide Web
Marketing" by Jim Sterne (John Wiley & Sons, 1995). Marketing Lists on the
Internet is registered with the Library of Congress, National Serials Data
Program (ISSN 1084-7391). (c) 1994-1995 wolfBayne Communications. All
