SEDONA, PIP Printing, and IBM Bring Quick Access to Internet Images

Free Browsing; Low-cost, High-resolution Printed Images

SAN FRANCISCO, September 27, 1995 . . . Desktop publishers, graphic
designers, and consumers can now quickly and inexpensively search for and
print thousands of high-quality, royalty-free images via the Internet, as
a result of an agreement announced today by SEDONA Systems Corporation,
PIP Printing, and IBM.

The agreement will enable Internet users to search for stock images and
clip art by selecting attributes including color, texture, and shape using
IBM's award-winning Query by Image Content (QBIC) technology. These images
can be quickly transmitted to local or distant PIP Printing centers using
REPRINT, SEDONA's document communications software. The companies
announced the new service at the Seybold '95 Conference.

Stock images and clip art may be retrieved from the Internet without
royalty payments, then resized, rotated, and embedded in documents. The
images can be transmitted quickly to some 650 PIP Printing centers
throughout the U.S. If computer users do not have access to the Internet,
they can use their telephone lines to access local print center image
databases.

PIP Printing locations will have access to SEDONA's extensive image
database, which stores more than 50,000 high-resolution images. When
documents are transmitted to PIP, REPRINT software will automatically
substitute high-resolution, print-quality versions of the images that were
browsed and selected on the Internet.

IBM's QBIC technology was first demonstrated at last year's Seybold
Conference, and won an "Award for Innovative Technology." REPRINT is the
first document communications software to use this advanced technology.

According to Bruce McDonald, chief executive officer of SEDONA Systems,
"Desktop publishers and graphic designers will now have affordable access
to large libraries of high-quality images and high-quality production
color printers via their desktop or laptop computers."

"Choosing Internet images using QBIC is as quick and easy as selecting
custom colors at a paint store," said Tim Negris, vice president of
marketing, IBM Software Solutions Division. "In a matter of minutes,
REPRINT users can identify the image they want, include it in their
document, and send it off for printing."

PIP Printing will be the first quick-print franchise chain to offer
nationwide printing services via the Internet. Its image database, which
will be supported as a World Wide Web server by SEDONA
(http://reprint.com/), will provide users free browsing of commercial
stock images. Users will be charged $2.50 per image used in their
document, independent of the number of pages printed. REPRINT software
containing QBIC image database technology will be available through retail
stores starting in January 1996, at a suggested retail price of $129.

Based in Scottsdale, AZ, SEDONA Systems is the leading provider of software
for remote electronic printing, and brings technological innovations to
the field of on-demand printing.

PIP Printing, based in Agoura Hills, CA., founded the retail printing
industry 27 years ago. PIP Printing stores offer a full range of
capabilities, including full-color printing, multicolor printing,
high-volume copying and graphic design.
