ICL AND ACADEMIC PRESS ANNOUNCE THE FIRST ON-LINE ACADEMIC LIBRARY AT
FRANKFURT BOOK FAIR

October 12, 1995 -- ICL is launching ICL COMMANDS, an entirely new service
set to revolutionise the sale and electronic delivery of publications. ICL
COMMANDS comprises services to manage the packaging, flexible pricing, and
delivery of publications across networks worldwide.

ICL is further pleased to announce the sale of this service to Academic
Press, one of the world's leading academic publishers. ICL and Fujitsu
America Inc. have been chosen to develop, implement and operate Academic
Press's IDEAL (International Desktop Electronic Access Library), the first
global academic on-line library.

IDEAL will use the Internet to increase access to Academic Press's journals
by bringing them directly to readers' digital desktops.

The key strength of ICL COMMANDS is that it addresses the primary issues
facing the publishing industry today, namely access control, unlicensed
copying, rights management and user administration, whilst delivering all
the benefits of flexible marketing, immediate access to subscribers and
overall improved quality of service.

David Worlock, Chairman of Electronic Publishing Services, says "Two
world-class players have come together to create the first on-line library
in the world to address these issues. This is a partnership which is
likely to serve as a model, and which will certainly have a major impact
on the sector."

John Davison, ICL's strategy director, comments that "Academic Press has
shown great vision using ICL COMMANDS as the vehicle for IDEAL. They are
the first major scientific, technical and medical publisher to address the
needs of their authors and readers, providing access to market leading
journals direct to the desktop."

Pieter Bolman, the President of Academic Press, stated "With IDEAL, we set
out to change the nature of academic publishing by creating reliable and
fast access to the latest research across the globe. We wanted a partner
who understood our business and who we trust to deliver and continually
develop high quality services. The Fujitsu ICL team were the clear
choice."
