Legato Announces a Revolutionary Approach to Protecting Data on Macintosh
Systems

FIRST NETWORK BACKUP PRODUCT THAT GIVES MACINTOSH USERS THE ABILITY TO
BACKUP FILES TO AND RECOVER FILES FROM ALMOST ANY BACKUP SERVER WITHOUT
ADMINISTRATOR INTERVENTION

PALO ALTO, CA, October 23, 1995-- Legato Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: LGTO), a
leading provider of client/server-based enterprise storage management
software, today announced ClientPak for Macintosh, the first network
backup product for client/server environments that empowers networked
Macintosh users with the option to recover files or directories without
administrator intervention.

"With the introduction of ClientPak for Macintosh, Legato NetWorker now
supports all major operating system platforms," said Louis C. Cole,
president and CEO of Legato Systems, Inc. "Without a doubt, NetWorker is
the most comprehensive network storage management solution for enterprises
of all sizes and platform types," added Cole.

ClientPak for Macintosh is the fifth in a series of ClientPak offerings
from Legato that allows data resident on networked desktops and
workstations to be protected by a NetWorker storage management server.
Prior to ClientPak for Macintosh, Legato offered ClientPak for UNIX, PC
Desktops, NetWare, and Windows NT.

Sunil Shah, the Sun systems administrator of the Lockheed Martin
Corporation, said, "We have NetWorker for SunOS/Solaris, and we need the
ability to back up all of our attached Macintosh servers via NetWorker.
Legato's ClientPak for Macintosh will enable us to protect all of the
server data on our network. We look forward to delivering NetWorker's
performance to our Macintosh server."

ClientPak for Macintosh is now supported by all NetWorker UNIX servers
(Solaris, SunOS, AIX, SCO, and all OEM versions), and Windows NT servers.
It will be supported by NetWare in February of 1996.

"Legato has been an innovator and pioneer in network storage management for
enterprises since the founding of the company in 1988," said Rob Enderle,
an industry analyst at Dataquest in San Jose, CA. "The availability of
ClientPak for Macintosh, coupled with their NetWorker OEM and shrink-wrap
versions of NetWorker, completes Legato's vision of a network storage
management solution independent of most operating system environments."

Features and Benefits of ClientPak for Macintosh

PERFORMANCE: NetWorker's Parallel backup feature allows multiple data
servers and other clients to send files to media simultaneously; the
parallel restore feature allows multiple files to be recovered from media
simultaneously; the Concurrent Device Support feature allows simultaneous
backup to and restore from multiple storage devices; and the Media Pools
feature allows segregation of Macintosh data and routes them to the
fastest media device available.

UNATTENDED OPERATION: Scheduled backups run as an automated operation
transparent to Macintosh users; and users can easily recover their own
files without administrator assistance.

Pricing and Availability

ClientPak for Macintosh will be available on December 20, 1995. The U.S.
suggested list price will be $1,500 for unlimited usage per NetWorker
server or $150 per individual Macintosh user for mixed platform networks
where only a few Macintosh clients are present.
