LEGEND PRESIDENT BOB BATES ADDRESSES DEVELOP! 95 CONFERENCE AT THE EUROPEAN
COMPUTER TRADE SHOW

CHANTILLY, Va., September 20, 1995-Legend Entertainment Company President
Bob Bates presented his viewpoints on computer game story development as a
member of a distinguished panel of interactive entertainment industry
experts at the Develop! 95 conferences held in conjunction with the
European Computer Trade Show in London September 10-12, 1995.

Bates strongly believes the responsibility of the computer game author is
similar to that of the traditional fiction novelist--to create a
believable, enjoyable world that is fun to explore. Bates said, "We want a
writer to create a world and to transport us there, to tell us what life
is like there, and how it is similar or different to our own life. We want
to be introduced to new people, and to learn about their problems and how
they solve them (or fail to)."

Bates continued, "An author's job is to create a story that explains his
opinions about how life is. The point of interactivity is to let players
determine the depth to which they experience the author's world, rather
than to let the players decide the outcome of the story." This view is in
contrast to the increasingly popular technique of leaving character and
plot development to the player.

Bates outlined his beliefs along with interactive entertainment industry
pioneers Charles Cecil, Managing Director, Revolution; Steve Cooke,
Director, Myelin; Bing Gordon, International Studio Manager, Electronic
Arts; and Richard Garriott, Vice President & Executive Producer, Origin
Systems. Develop! 95 conference attendees included publishers, producers
and designers of interactive entertainment from throughout the United
States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. After making their
presentations, the panelists engaged in a lively discussion with attendees
regarding the future of interactive storytelling and creative challenges
facing new media authors.

The European Computer Trade Show is Europe's premier interactive
