LEXMARK EXPANDS OPTRA FAMILY, BROADENS CONNECTIVITY OPTIONS

GREENWICH, CT., SEPT. 25, 1995 ...Lexmark International Inc. today unveiled
five new laser printers, including its first color laser printer and four
new 16 page-per-minute (ppm) models of its award- winning Optra monochrome
laser family, that significantly expand its line of business desktop and
network printers.

Lexmark also recently announced enhancements to its line of connectivity
options with the MarkNet IR, a high-speed infrared device that provides
wireless file transfer and printing, and increased network support for its
MarkVision network printer management utility software.

The Optra C, Lexmark's first entry into the growing color laser market,
provides photographic quality printing at 600 x 600 dots per inch (dpi)
and Continuous Tone (Contone) color provides the industry's best color
output to business users who want high-speed, plain paper color printing
on their network or to application-specific color professionals such as
graphic artists, scientists and industrial designers. Its anticipated
street price is $6,400.

Lexmark's newest models of the Optra monochrome laser printer family,
called Optra plus, are based on the original Optra lasers that won more
than 30 international industry awards since their introduction in October
1994. They deliver outstanding value for 16 ppm lasers along with improved
processing performance and increased media handling. Estimated street
prices range from $1,400 to $3,200.

"Once again we've set a standard of price performance, superior quality and
cutting-edge technology with these announcements," said Scot Edwards, vice
president of worldwide marketing and U.S. sales, Network Printers. "These
products illustrate Lexmark's commitment to provide unsurpassed
performance and value to the customer."

OPTRA C

The Optra C's fast print speeds of 12 ppm in monochrome and 3 ppm in color,
combined with Lexmark's advanced memory compression and fast job
processing, deliver print jobs quickly for enhanced shared printing. The
Optra C comes with PostScript Level 2 and enhanced PCL5 with Color
emulations at no extra charge, so it works with virtually any software
application.

Past Optra customers will also recognize the "look and feel" of the Optra
C. The operator panel has the same 4-line by 20-character LCD screen and
four easy-to-push staggered buttons for simple selection of modes and
settings.

It connects to more than 30 different network environments through
Lexmark's MarkNet XL internal network adapters and is fully supported by
Lexmark's MarkVision network printer management utility. All of the Optras
also use the same hard drive and flash memory options and internal network
adapters, making it easy for customers to order and utilize similar
features.

NEW 1,200 DPI OPTRA LASERS

The new 16-ppm Optra plus models, like the original Optras they replace,
produce photographic-like images, graphics and text at true 1,200 x 1,200
dpi that are four times sharper than current 600 dpi laser printers, but
at the same or less cost. The four models are the Optra R+, Optra Rt+,
Optra Lx+ and Optra Lxi+, all with print speeds of 16 ppm in the 300 dpi
and 600 dpi modes and 8 ppm in the 1,200 dpi print mode.

Lexmark enhanced the value of the Optra R+, formerly its 12 page-
per-minute desktop model, by increasing its print speed to 16 ppm in 300
dpi and 600 dpi modes without increasing its price. Lexmark also replaced
the Optra Rx and L models with the 16 ppm Rt+, which adds a second
200-sheet paper drawer standard. With the new optional dual rear feeder,
which consists of two input stackers that hold up to 150 sheets of paper
and fits on any of the Optra plus models, the Rt+ provides up to five
input sources for users who have multiple input requirements.

The Optra Lx+, like its predecessor model, has larger paper input and
output capacities and greater duty cycle for high-volume network printing.
The Optra Lxi+ is network-ready and configured with an Ethernet
10BaseT/10Base2 combo adapter card, pre-installed extra memory and an
additional 500-sheet second paper drawer.

The 16 ppm, 1,200 dpi Optra models benefit from up to 50 percent increased
processing performance. This improved performance frees up the printer
faster and helps make sure complex print jobs don't interfere with traffic
on the computer network.

All four models include enhanced PCL 5 and PostScript Level 2 emulations at
no extra charge and connect to a variety of network operating systems
through Lexmark's MarkNet XL internal network adapters or MarkNet XLe
external network adapters. All Optra laser printers are fully supported by
Lexmark's MarkVision network printer management utility.

MARKNET I

To address the needs of the growing mobile computer user, Lexmark announced
the MarkNet IR, an infrared adapter that attaches to either printers or
desktop PCs to provide file transfer, file synchronization and printing
over an infrared data link at speeds of up to 1.152 megabytes per second.

While other solutions require separate devices for printing and file
transfer, Lexmark combined both into one compact unit. There is no need
for cables, switch boxes or complicated connections to print or transfer
files between an infrared-capable portable computer and a desktop PC or
printer. When attached to a Lexmark network printer, the MarkNet IR uses
Lexmark's MarkVision to install and configure the correct printer. The
MarkNet IR is compatible with Infrared Data Association (IrDA) standards.
Available in late September, its anticipated street price is $250.

MARKVISION ENHANCEMENTS

Lexmark also announced expanded network support for its MarkVision network
printer mangement utility, including MarkVision for OS/2, for users of
IBM's OS/2 Warp operating system, available in late September, and
MarkVision for Windows 95, which will be available to users of the new
Microsoft operating system in November.

The expanded MarkVision enhancements also include streamlined installation
and driver update facilities and NetWare Directory Services (NDS) support
for Windows 3.1x clients, and MarkVision integration into the ManageWise
network management product in the Novell NetWare network environment.

Lexmark designed all of the new printers with the environment in mind and
all models comply fully with the Energy Star printers program of the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency. Lexmark printers are available from
Lexmark's resellers, including distributors and dealers, and select retail
electronic and computer superstores and mass market outlets.
