New World Wide Web Site Focuses on Macintosh Resources for Scientists &
Engineers

Worcester, MA (October 25, 1995). The MacSciTech Association today
announced the launch of the organization's home page on the World Wide
Web. Dedicated to providing technical and educational resources for
scientists and engineers who use the Macintosh computing environment,
MacSciTech's Web site is located at http://www.macscitech.org/.

For the first time, scientists and engineers can go to one place online to
quickly find a wealth of information about Macs in science and
engineering. For instance, MacSciTech's Web page provides direct links to
the association's FTP site (ftp://ftp.ari.net/pub/MacSciTech). Here you'll
find dozens and dozens of public domain software packages, technical
notes, and images for a wide range of applications using the Macintosh,
including biology, chemistry, physics, electrical engineering, space
sciences, test and measurement, and more.

The MacSciTech home page also provides direct links to an impressive list
of technology experts-the Technical Experts Panel. This is a select group
of MacSciTech members who have volunteered their time to answer technical
questions specific to their disciplines. For instance, members can ask
questions about general application areas, such as CAD, molecular
modeling, finite element analysis, visualization, and data acquisition. Or
questions can be asked about using specific products, such as LabVIEW,
Mathematica, Extend, HyperCard, the Macintosh Application Environment,
PowerMacs, and more.

In conjunction with the organization's Web page, MacSciTech is also
introducing The Consultants' Network (TCN). TCN is a list of MacSciTech
members who offer consulting services for a fee to the Macintosh community
at large. These consultants, all experts in their field, offer a wide
range of services for those sticky computing problems that always seem to
arise. Services are provided in such areas as education, simulation, data
acquisition, graphics and image processing, data analysis and modeling,
signal processing, hardware and software development, technical writing,
network administration, online services, and World Wide Web authoring.
Listings contain contact information and descriptions of the services.

One of MacSciTech's on-going programs is negotiating attractive discounts
on hardware, software, and CPUs for members. An up-to-date listing of the
third-party special deals is maintained on the Web site. In addition, the
MacSciTech Bookstore is now online, offering members 15-20% off all
technical books, videos, and CD-ROMs.

MacSciTech's home page also contains convenient links to other interesting
science, engineering, and Macintosh sites online, including Apple
Computer's home page (http://www.apple.com), as well as a number of
Macintosh-specific magazines. You will also find back issues of the
association's technical journal, SciTech Journal, containing technology
articles, case histories, and industry news specific to the Macintosh in
scientific and engineering applications.

MacSciTech, founded in 1991, is an independent, professional association of
over 1500 scientists and engineers from research, medical, university, and
manufacturing organizations. MacSciTech produces a variety of publications
and CD-ROMs, as well as technical conferences and education programs. The
group also supports several Internet-based forums, including a World Wide
Web site (http://www.macscitech.org), and local meetings to support
computer users in science, research, engineering, and industry.
MacSciTech's Developers Advisory Council of MacSciTech is a group of over
30 hardware and software developers who also work to promote the effective
utilization of computers in science and engineering.
