MERIDIAN DATA ENHANCES CD ROM NETWORKING ACCESS FOR APPLE MACINTOSH USERS

NETWORK SERVER SOFTWARE NOW PROVIDES SIMULTANEOUS CD SHARING FOR APPLE
MACINTOSH, MICROSOFT WINDOWS AND IBM OS/2 CLIENTS

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. (October 16, 1995) -- Meridian Data, Inc.
(NASDAQ/NMS: MDCD) today introduced CD NET FOR MACINTOSH, enabling Mac
workstations to simultaneously access CD ROMs over Novell networks. The
new CD networking software rounds out Meridian's product linenow covering
the broadest range of client/server environments with multiuser support
for popular Apple, Microsoft and IBM network users.

CD Net lets Macintosh network clients easily locate and access CD ROMs
anywhere on the LAN. With its seamless integration into the Macintosh
Chooser and Finder desktop, familiar operations just work as-is. Once a
disc is selected, the software transparently mounts the CD and performs
any special setup required by the application. This means that Mac users
are not required to learn anything new in order to share CD ROMs over the
network.

Many organizations have experienced a substantial productivity boost after
transitioning from standalone CD ROM-equipped workstations to a multiuser
network solution. The savings result from improved time management,
reduced title licensing fees and elimination of lost discs. The
requirement for Mac-to-CD connectivity is especially key for the education
market. According to Paul Robinson, product manager for The Follett
Software Company, "As a leading provider of reference CD ROM titles, we
are pleased to see Meridian Data offer their CD Net networking software
for the Macintosh, a standard in academic environments. Now students,
teachers and administrators can access and share CD ROM-based resources
over the network through the familiar Macintosh interface."

The new Macintosh client&oacute--along with previously-announced native
Windows and DOS clientsis available as an option with Meridian's CD Net
Plus client/server software. The multiserver software allows users to map
an unlimited number of CDs to their desktops and view them as file
subdirectories. CD Net Plus supports up to 56 CD ROM drives per server
over Novell networks and can be configured as an NLM or on a dedicated
Meridian or PC system.

Meridian's award-winning menuing systems give specialized network clients
and administrators complete flexibility over their CD resources. The
advanced application tools--not available with product offerings from
standard network operating system vendors--enable fast setup of license
metering parameters, tailored security and access to specific CD
collections, and management and tracking of disc libraries.
