ManageWise Services Garner Support from Leading SNMP Management Console
Vendors

ManageWise 2.0 Enables Users To Manage the NetWare Environment From Their
Console of Choice

DALLAS, Texas -- Enterprise Management Summit -- October 23, 1995 -- Novell
and Intel today announced that the leading management console
vendors--IBM, SunSoft and Hewlett-Packard--are supporting the ManageWise
2.0 server management agent. The ManageWise 2.0 NetWare server agent
enables any Simple NetWork Management Protocol (SNMP) console to detect
NetWare problems, optimize server performance, obtain long- term trending
information and reconfigure server parameters.

ManageWise 2.0 builds on Novell's strategy of providing management as a
network service, integrating its capabilities into the network rather than
as a centralized system. As a distributed service, ManageWise takes
advantage of existing network processing power and reduces network
traffic. ManageWise services provide shared access to management
information, enabling multiple standards-based consoles to cooperatively
manage heterogeneous enterprise environments. In addition to the
ManageWise server agent, enterprise consoles can access ManageWise mapping
and network analysis services to better manage the network.

The ManageWise NetWare server agent is among the most extensive SNMP agents
ever created. From any SNMP console, managers can detect, isolate and
resolve over 400 NetWare server faults. Managers can monitor NetWare
system configuration information such as user connections, memory and
loaded NLM software. They can also proactively manage server performance
by examining real time information and long term trends on parameters such
as CPU utilization, disk space capacity and print queue usage. Further,
managers can use SNMP to re-configure server parameters.

"The ability to use a variety of management platforms to manage the network
is key for large organizations," said Prem Uppaluru, vice president and
general manager of Novell's Management Products Division. "By enabling
users to manage Novell networks from any SNMP console, ManageWise greatly
expands the range of management options, and allows multiple managers
within the organization to cooperate on network issues."

Support from enterprise console vendors

"By taking advantage of Novell's new agent, IBM now can provide enhanced
manageability of the NetWare server and a more dynamic view of NetWare
topology from SystemView," said Lynn Wilczak, director, SystemView
Strategy and Plans, IBM Networking Software Division. "In combination, our
recently announced SystemView Agent and the new Novell server agent make
it possible for customers to manage their desktops and now Novell servers
from a single SNMP manager, such as SystemView. This is a great
opportunity for our shared customers to implement cooperative enterprise
management."

Walt O'Maley of SunSoft said, "SunSoft is excited about the new ManageWise
agent as it provides the same set of NetWare management data to all
management consoles through the SNMP standard. Solstice Site Manager and
Solstice Domain Manager provide a set of consistent, scalable and
distributed management platforms that can be interconnected together to
manage anything from the small site to the large multi-site environment.
The new ManageWise agent is key as it now opens up LAN management along
with our current strength in UNIX# and network device management. Novell's
new agent is a real boon for the administrator who wants to centralize
management of their different environments including NetWare LAN
management."

"More and more OpenView customers consider management of NetWare
environments to be a fundamental requirement," said Robert Hoog, general
manager of Hewlett-Packard's Network and System Management Division. "With
Novell's new ManageWise management agent, our customers can now have
immediate access to additional sources of information about their NetWare
environments, all from an OpenView enterprise console."

Intel, the world's largest chip maker, is also a leading manufacturer of
personal computer, networking and communications products.
