Novell Unveils Plans to Deliver TSAPI Middleware

New product to enable leading e-mail and office productivity applications

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Oct. 25, 1995 -- Novell today announced its commitment
to deliver a computer telephony integration (CTI) middleware platform in
the first quarter of 1996. Code-named Communication Platform Services
(CPS), the product will deliver the value of CTI to the knowledge worker's
desktop and will serve as a tool to simplify integration of existing and
future CTI solutions with NetWare Telephony Services. The product will be
publicly demonstrated for the first time at the Second Annual TSAPI
Conference, October 25 in San Francisco.

Knowledge workers will benefit from the product's "enablement extensions"
for leading desktop applications including Novell's GroupWise and
PerfectOffice, and cc:Mail, Microsoft Mail and Microsoft Office. By simply
highlighting a person's name or telephone number from within these
applications and clicking a dial button, CPS will perform the call control
functions necessary to place the telephone call. Users will also have
access to more advanced telephone features such as hold, transfer and
conference through an intuitive graphical interface. Through Novell and
third-party plug-in directory access tools, CPS will simultaneously search
multiple directories including NetWare Directory Services, personal
directories, corporate e-mail and more.

CPS implements the Novell telephony Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)
specification announced as part of Novell's telephony roadmap. By using
the DDE spec, CPS provides a simplified option for integrating telephony
applications into the TSAPI environment while providing the user with a
common look and feel. Applications needing base-line call control and
directory look-up can leverage CPS through the DDE spec without having to
do source-level development.

"CPS fulfills two commitments toward our recently announced telephony
roadmap while delivering new capabilities for the applications people use
most," said Paul Armstrong, director of marketing for Novell's Telephony
Products. "By implementing the DDE spec, CPS fulfills our commitments to
provide simplified tools to integrate with NetWare Telephony Services and
deliver CTI solutions into the Novell channel in Q1 1996."

CPS also uses voice services provided by a NetWare Loadable Module (NLM),
developed in partnership with Dialogic Corp. for the D/41D voice
processing platform. CPS takes advantage of this NLM and the D/41D voice
card to provide simple navigation of existing voice-mail features such as
login, retrieve messages, reply and record without ever touching the phone
keypad.

"Dialogic and Novell are committed to developing the CTI market," Armstrong
continued. "The Dialogic NLM opens opportunities for Novell to deliver
voice and call control integrated features through CPS."

Novell and Dialogic will work together to promote and educate the data
communications channel, assisting value added resellers and systems
integrators to become successful in the CTI marketplace. Combining CPS,
the D/41D voice card and the D/41D NLM through channel bundles, Novell and
Dialogic will simplify customer procurement of this solution.

"We are excited about the LAN-based application possibilities with the
development of the D/41D NLM," said Howard Bubb, president and CEO of
Dialogic. "We look forward to partnering with Novell to create a new class
of resellers capable of delivering open, LAN-based computer telephony
services solutions."

CPS will quickly evolve to incorporate additional server-based voice/media
control services through the D/41D to deliver personal call assistant
features. These features will be accessible from both the desktop and
telephone handset platforms.
