Exide Electronics to Supply Power Protection Solutions for 1996 Olympic
Games

Raleigh, N.C., OCTOBER 16, 1995-- A solitary runner will light the torch at
the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. But it will take thousands of
engineers, technicians and networked electronic systems to 'keep the torch
burning'. Exide Electronics, the global leader in power protection
solutions, will be a supplier to the 1996 Olympic Games, actively
supporting the up-time requirements of vast networks of sophisticated
timing devices, computers and communications systems.

The power protection solutions designed for the 1996 Olympic Games will
integrate the full range of technologies, products and services needed to
manage and protect the Games' mission-critical assets. These solutions
include Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS), power management software,
and other network connectivity devices. Services range from fully
dedicated on-site management to remote support from the company's
Worldwide Services Group.

"As the 1996 Olympic Games draw ever nearer, Exide Electronics and other
suppliers become ever more important," said Billy Payne, president and CEO
of The Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG). "Exide Electronics
and its employees will help us stage the world's largest peacetime
gathering of nations and athletes."

The 1996 Olympic Games will attract millions of spectators and nearly 3.5
billion viewers worldwide. "Obviously, with audiences of that size, our
most critical task is to ensure that availability of thousands of
computers and communications devices at all times," said Exide Electronics
Chief Executive Officer James Risher.

The enterprise-wide solutions Exide Electronics is supplying include more
that 12,000 integrated power protection and management components.
Self-diagnostic aspects of Exide Electronics' technologies will constantly
monitor power conditions and manage the impact of power anomalies to help
prevent problems before they occur. Battery backup systems will provide
temporary emergency power as a second line of defense.

"There are other companies that could supply the Olympic organizing
committee with simple battery backup systems," said Risher. "But only one
company supplies complete, turnkey power protection solutions."

"For 33 years, we've handled some of the most complex mission- critical
applications in the world, including air traffic control and national
security systems," said Risher, who added that Exide Electronics has the
world's largest dedicated UPS service force, and the industry's widest
range of UPS solutions. "We're proud to have the opportunity to be a
supplier of the 1996 Olympic Games."

Headquartered in Raleigh, N.C., Exide Electronics fulfills the strategic
power management needs of a broad range of businesses and institutions
worldwide, including many Fortune 1000 companies. Exide Electronics'
products are used for financial, medical, industrial, telecommunications,
military, and aerospace applications--wherever continuous power is
essential to mission-critical operations. In fiscal 1994, Exide
Electronics had revenues of $364 million.
