MOBILE COMPUTING SOUNDS SUPERB WITH PANASONIC'S TWO NEW MULTIMEDIA
PACKAGES

Secaucus, NJ - Panasonic Communications & Systems Company (PCSC), a
division of Matsushita Electric Corp. of America, announces a new
multimedia bundle and upgrade kit expressly for portable computer users.
The KXL-D721 bundle includes Panasonic's KXL-D720 PCMCIA portable CD-ROM
drive, a battery-powered speaker system, a Sound/SCSI card and ESS Audio
Sound Suite software. For those who already have a KXL-D720 PCMCIA drive,
the compatible KXL-D20 upgrade kit provides speakers, Sound/SCSI card and
software.

"The KXL-D721 and KXL-D20 are ideal aftermarket products," said Timothy J.
Curran, vice president and general manager of Panasonic's Computer
Products Group. "There is already a large installed base of notebook
owners who don't have multimedia equipment. Panasonic can provide a
portable CD-ROM drive and high tech sound simply and inexpensively."

The double-speed CD-ROM drive weighs just 14 ounces and has a 300
kB-per-second transfer rate, 250 millisecond access speed and 128 kB
memory buffer. The drive operates on AC power or six AA batteries,
providing up to two hours of data. A power save feature reverts to the
"sleep mode" after four minutes of non-usage.

The amplified speakers together weigh approximately one half pound and are
powered by two AA batteries (included) with a life span of 33 hours at
maximum volume. The speakers connect to an interface with volume control
and ports for line in, headphones and microphone input. Optimum sound is
achieved by a 16-bit, 44kHz stereo digital sound controller and a 24-voice
YAMAHA OPL3-compatible FM music synthesizer.

The ESS Audio Sound Suite software can be easily installed and provides
both play and record capabilities. The software also features a mixer,
audio clip library, talking calendar and clock, audio reminder for
appointments, and a stop watch/timer. Users can create their own
recordings with a clip-on lapel microphone.

The KXL-D721 is compatible with DOS, Windows 3.1 and Windows 95, and
requires a minimum of one PCMCIA Type II slot. For systems without card
managers, a point enabler device driver will automatically be loaded,
allowing the CD-ROM drive to operate.

The KXL-D721 and KXL-D20 carry suggested retail prices of $599 and $349,
respectively, and are backed by a two-year limited warranty and
24-hour/7-day service. Both packages will be available through Panasonic
computer distributors and resellers in October.
