PCSI to Develop Wireless Chip Set For Narrowband PCS

Cirrus Logic Subsidiary's Development Effort Supports New Technology for
Two-way Messaging

SAN DIEGO, CA -- PCSI, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cirrus Logic Inc.
(Nasdaq: CRUS) today announced that it is developing a highly integrated
chip set for use in the recently announced personal air communications
technology (pACT) systems. pACT is a narrowband PCS technology being
co-developed by AT&T Wireless Services Inc., PCSI and others for operation
in the 900 MHz band. In addition to two-way messaging, pACT is capable of
addressing a broad range of digital applications such as telemetry,
electronic calendars updates, personal home security and others.

The chip set will consist of two baseband chips and an RF chip to minimize
system cost and power. One baseband chip will include an embedded
microcontroller as well as other peripheral functions. The second baseband
chip is a modem chip for modulation/demodulation. The chip set's low power
consumption and small footprint make it especially well-suited for use in
portable devices such as pagers and PC Cards.

"Ensuring the availability of pACT components early-on -- and at a
competitive price point -- is key to bringing the next generation of
paging into the hands of millions of consumers," said Ken Arneson, vice
president of business development for AT&T Wireless Services, Messaging
Division. "PCSI's strength in wireless data systems design, complemented
by Cirrus Logic's expertise in supplying high-volume semiconductors, makes
them well qualified to address this new market opportunity."

"This pACT chip set will address the needs of manufacturers and developers
who are planning to provide nationwide next generation paging products and
applications, without compromising cost, power or size," said Dave Lyon,
president of PCSI. "We're looking forward to applying our experience with
analog, digital, mixed-signal and radio technology, as well our systems
and software expertise, to provide chip level technology for this exciting
new advanced communications solution."

PCSI's parent company, Cirrus Logic is a leading manufacturer of advanced
integrated circuits for desktop and portable computing, telecommunications
and consumer electronics markets. Cirrus Logic's leadership in providing
semiconductors to mass markets, coupled with PCSI's wireless data
expertise, has permitted PCSI to emerge as a recognized leader in wireless
computing technologies such as Japan's Personal Handyphone System (PHS)
and Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD).

PCSI is a leader in the supply of products and technology for advanced
wireless communications and telecommunications around the world. It is the
world's leading supplier of infrastructure and end-user products
supporting CDPD and holds the ISO 9001 Quality System Certification. Learn
