PERFORMANCE TECHNOLOGY ADDS BUILT-IN ISDN SUPPORT IN INSTANT INTERNET 3.0

ALSO NEW: WINDOWS 95 SUPPORT PLUS EXTENSIVE ADMINISTRATION AND MONITORING
FEATURES

Availability: November 1995
Price: $4195

SAN ANTONIO, Texas, October 23, 1995--Performance Technology (PT) today
announced Instant Internet Version 3.0, a hardware/software product that
connects up to 50 concurrent users on a NetWare or POWERLan network
directly to the Internet. Key new features of Version 3.0 include:
built-in ISDN support for fast digital connectivity and product
scalability; support for Windows 95 and NT environments; and an array of
new administrative tools, including: SNMP support, logging and monitoring
facilities, and sophisticated access control for users and groups.

With a built-in 64K ISDN connection, Instant Internet delivers dramatically
higher bandwidth than Instant Internet versions available with built- in
28.8K modem capability, adding scalability at a relatively low incremental
price. Both the previous Versions 1.0 and 2.0 supported digital, T1, and
leased line connections, but required the use of external routers. Version
3.0 offers an internal ISDN option. The ISDN support further enhances
Instant Internet performance with very fast connect-times and the high
reliability associated with digital links.

Instant Internet 3.0 adds support for Windows 95 and NT environments by
including a 32-bit WINSOCK for compatibility with 32-bit applications,
such as the newest version of NetScape. Although 32-bit applications are
relatively few to date, this capability keeps Instant Internet on the
leading edge of application and OS compatibility.

The new Version 3.0 adds a significant set of administrative tools,
presented with the same graphic originality as the user interfaces of
other award-winning PT products. Extensive access control and logging
features are now available in conjunction with user/group facilities, also
new. For example, access to particular Web sites, specified by name or IP
address, and the ability to perform various functions such as to download
files via FTP, are now configurable on a per user/group basis. Internet
access for users and groups can also be configured by time of day and day
of week.

Logging has been added to meet customer requests for accounting
capabilities. Logged items include amount of data exchanged and duration
of connect time per user. Logged data is recoverable in a standard format,
accessible by familiar products such as Excel and database applications.

A dynamic monitoring screen displaying status of the connection, transfer
rates, number of users connected, and usage of Instant Internet is also
new. And, Instant Internet is now manageable by SNMP tools, such as HP's
OpenView, a capability especially useful in medium-to- large environments
with numerous network devices to monitor.

THE INSTANT INTERNET ENVIRONMENT

Instant Internet is designed specifically for NetWare, POWERLan, and
Windows 95 networks with clients running, at minimum, Windows 3.1.
Performance Technology is the first company to offer an all- in-one-box,
LAN-based Internet access solution that does not touch any LAN server.
Client installation is minimal and can be performed across the network in
minutes without leaving Windows. An account with an Internet Service
Provider (ISP) is needed. Instant Internet comes with built-in SLIP and
PPP dial-up facilities, or with built- in ISDN, and supports external IP
routers on dedicated, digital circuits as well. The plug-and-play product
supports Ethernet, ARCNET, or Token Ring networks. Significant features of
Instant Internet include low cost, easy installation, hardware firewall
security, high performance, scalability, and a bundled suite of popular
Internet applications. Originally announced in February '95, Instant
Internet has garnered Computer Reseller News Testing Center's
'Recommended' award, and Honorable Mention by PC Magazine.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

Version 3.0 of Instant Internet is slated to ship in November. The product
is licensed for all users on a LAN, allows up to 50 concurrent sessions,
and includes bundled Web browser, news reader, FTP client, and POP eMail
applications. The modem version is priced at $3495 for a single Ethernet
unit, $3745 for dual-Ethernet, and $3995 for Token Ring. The ISDN version
lists for $4195 for a single Ethernet unit, $4445 for a dual-Ethernet, and
$4695 for a Token Ring unit. Both modem and ISDN units can additionally be
used with external routers, if desired. The cost to upgrade a basic single
Ethernet unit from the modem Instant Internet versions 1.0 or 2.0 to
Version 3.0 is $749, which includes both hardware and software upgrades. A
software-only upgrade is priced at $299. Upgrade pricing for other
configurations is available through PT at (800) 784-4638.
