QMS Announces Support for QuickDraw GX

QMS GX Driver Suite enhances printing performance and ease of use for color
and business users in Macintosh environments

SEPTEMBER 25, 1995 - MOBILE, AL - QMS INC. (NYSE:AQM), the network printer
company, today announced the QMS GX Driver Suite which can enhance QMS
printer performance and improve the overall printing process in Macintosh
environments. QuickDraw GX, a new printing standard for Mac OS system 7.x
users, is designed to ease printing and print management. The new QMS GX
Driver Suite provides custom printing options and allows Macintosh GX
users to take advantage of special features in QMS printers to improve
printer throughput and useability.

The QMS GX Driver Suite is designed with a new graphical user interface
that allows QMS Crown print system users to more easily manage Macintosh
printing. For Macintosh users with color printing needs, the QMS GX Driver
Suite incorporates QMS' QCOLOR automatic color management capabilities for
business and desktop publishing applications. The QMS GX drivers support
all Apple QuickDraw GX features such as desktop printer icons, drag and
drop printing and extension support. In addition, the QMS GX drivers
enable QMS printer owners to easily customize the printing process by
eliminating the need to manually define print parameters with each print
job, thereby freeing users from repetitive print setting tasks.

"QMS is unlocking the potential of Apple's QuickDraw GX printing
architecture for our Macintosh customers by offering full compatibility
with QuickDraw GX," noted Scott Chandler, QMS Executive Director
Applications and Networks. "Applications are increasingly becoming GX
compatible and we want to make sure our customers are empowered to utilize
the benefits of GX printing. With the QMS GX Driver Suite, Macintosh users
can more easily manage printing tasks and customize print jobs. QMS is
committed to making printing as easy and versatile as possible for
Macintosh users."

QMS GX DRIVER SUITE

QMS GX Drivers can deliver faster throughput than conventional drivers. For
users with image-based or color applications that require both speed and
high resolution, the QMS GX Driver Suite is an ideal tool for improving
printer efficiency and output quality in a networked environment,
ultimately reducing network traffic. The QMS GX Driver Suite uses the
Apple Print Panel with scrolling icons to provide the user access to
various printer and print job configuration options. Multiple desktop
printers (DTP) can be created for each printer on the network. DTPs can
then be used for custom configuration, job status information and
drag-and-drop printing. Users can share DTPs the same way they share
files, folders or volumes. The QMS GX drivers offer an N-up printing
feature so multiple images can be printed on a single page, an ideal
option for archiving, printing drafts or printing reports.

The QMS GX Driver Suite supports QMS PostScript Level 2 print systems when
used with Apple Macintosh operating system version 7.1/GX 1.1.1 and 7.5/GX
1.1.1. The QMS GX drivers also work with non-QuickDraw applications.

With the QMS GX Driver Suite, Macintosh users now have access to the
benefits of QMS QCOLOR advanced color management technology used by QMS
color laser printers, including the new QMS magicolor CX. QCOLOR takes the
guess work out of color reproduction for desktop publishers, graphic
artists, and business users in the Macintosh environment by automatically
optimizing color output with extensive color matching and enhanced color
rendering support. QMS QCOLOR technology provides automatic control
optimization for novice or professional color users and a customizable
color capability for advanced users.

QMS' GX Driver Suite complements QMS' Crown architecture. QMS Crown
technology enables Crown print systems to serve multiple users and
applications, reducing the number of print devices needed in an enterprise
and broadening output services. Crown provides a common feature set across
all QMS print systems, including print job multitasking, robust network
support, sophisticated document handling and print features, and easy
system enhancements and upgrades. Each Crown print system incorporates QMS
Software Loadable System (SLS) technology for easy and cost-effective
addition of system upgrades and enhancements. In order to utilize the QMS
GX Driver Suite, a Macintosh user must have the Apple QuickDraw GX
software installed and running on their computer. The main features of the
GX architecture are enhanced font rendering, printing, and special graphic
capabilities.
