QUANTUM DEBUTS NEW DESKTOP DRIVES WITH INDUSTRY-LEADING CAPACITY PER DISK

QUANTUM FIREBALL DRIVE IS FIRST TWO-DISK 1280MB DRIVE; 640MB MODEL BOASTS
HIGHEST CAPACITY PER DISK IN THE MARKET

MILPITAS, CALIF., SEPTEMBER 18, 1995 - Quantum Corporation (NMS:QNTM) today
announced the Quantum Fireball 640 and 1280 drives, new additions to the
Fireball 3.5-inch family, targeted at the entry-level desktop to low-end
server markets. The Quantum Fireball is the first drive offering 640MB per
disk and 1280MB in the two- disk version, making it the highest capacity
per disk product for the desktop and extending Quantum's market leadership
position.

The Quantum Fireball 640 and 1280 drives leverage the already established
Fireball 540/1080 platform to offer more capacity and the highest
performance capabilities available in their class. The increased capacity
and performance benefits of the Quantum Fireball 640 and 1280 drives
support today's most popular data-intensive applications, including
digital video and audio, the Internet and multimedia. In addition, the
Fireball family of drives is MicrosoftR WindowsR '95 and Novell NetWareR
certified.

"Fireball drives have been extremely well received by our customers and
several million have shipped since April," said Michael Brown, president
of Quantum's Desktop and Portables Storage Group. "This line extension
demonstrates that Quantum isn't simply keeping up with the storage demands
of the information revolution, we're staying ahead of the curve."

QUANTUM FIREBALL DRIVES: STORAGE FOR ENTRY-LEVEL PCS TO LOW-END SERVERS

Performance-enhancing features include a Fast ATA-2 interface for data
transfer rates up to 16.6 MB/second and a Fast SCSI-3 interface for
transfer rates of up to 10MB/second.

The Fireball's 5400 RPM rotational speed combined with Quantum's patented
third-generation PRML read channel provides fast internal data rates of 84
megabits per second (Mbit/sec). In addition, the Quantum Fireball drive
uses a sophisticated embedded servo scheme, which intersperses positioning
information with user data on each disk. This ensures data integrity,
enables the continuous flow of data streams and eliminates the use of
thermal recalibrations (TCALs), which are required by other types of
servos. TCALs are the most common cause of data delays such as missed
frames in movies, or noticeable gaps in music or presentations recorded on
disk.

INCREASED RELIABILITY / EXTENDED WARRANTY

Quantum's Fireball drives are designed to meet the escalating capacity,
performance and reliability standards of today's digitized world. Fireball
drives support S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting
Technology), an advanced drive diagnostics feature developed for ATA and
SCSI hard disk drives. S.M.A.R.T. is designed to reduce unscheduled
computer downtime due to age, environmental conditions or other
parameters.

Quantum's efficient designs require fewer components, contributing to a
Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) rating of 500,000 hours for the Fireball
drives, the best in its class by 150,000 hours.

The reliability of the Quantum Fireball drives is backed by a three- year
warranty through its authorized distributors.
