Sculptor SQL Server middleware accesses Sculptor data from Windows ODBC
products

October 9, 1995 -- Sculptor's new SQL client-server middleware lets users
access Sculptor data from ODBC-compliant Windows products. Developed
jointly by Sculptor Ltd. and Transoft, both based in the United Kingdom,
Sculptor SQL Server features a PC-based MS ODBC driver and a Unix SQL
server optimized to access Sculptor datafiles. Sculptor SQL Server is
available now from The KD Consulting Group (513 887-0337), exclusive
Sculptor distributor in North and South America.

By connecting corporate data to products such as Access, Excel, and Visual
Basic, users can employ Distributed Database Management, Object Linking
and Embedding, and similar techniques. Users gain the versatility of
ODBC-compliant tools without compromising transaction processing speed on
the server, and keep the power and agility of Sculptor 4GL for managing
data with complex data entry programs. The system supports many TCP/IP
products for open network architecture.

"Sculptor SQL Server middleware combines transparent read and write access
from the PC with a data migration strategy which has proved to be
low-risk, low-cost, and unobtrusive. VARs and end users need minimal
retraining," says Gary Thompson, Sculptor's Managing Director. "Existing
applications immediately increase in value. By improving information
management, users benefit from better data analysis and greater
productivity."

Introduced in the early 1980s on Unix, Sculptor 4GL dramatically reduces
programming time. Sculptor programs use little memory or disk space; even
computers with low specifications can support several terminals. The
language is easy to learn and use, and existing applications are easily
customized. Transparently portable, Sculptor applications require no
program changes, source code recompiling, or data file reformatting to
move among 140-plus supported platforms.

Sculptor supports more than 200,000 users in 48 countries. Some, including
NASA, have run Sculptor applications for more than a decade, updating
continuously and moving smoothly to the latest hardware and operating
systems.

Sculptor is available for Unix, OS-9, OSF/1, MS-DOS, DOS networks including
MS-NET, Token Ring, Novell, QNX, and CDOS 386. Supported hardware ranges
from hand-herds, portables, and small PCs to multi-user micros, large
minis, and multi-processor machines supporting hundreds of concurrent
users.
