New Publication Ferrets Out Internet Resources for Scientists and
Engineers

Science & Engineering Network News is a Guide to Technical Resources
Online

Worcester, MA (October 25, 1995). Soliloquess Communications announced
publication of a new service that will help scientists and engineers make
sense of the information explosion occurring on the Internet, our nation's
"Information Superhighway." The new publication, Science & Engineering
Network News (SENN), is published monthly. Initially a technical journal,
soon to be followed by an online service, SENN focuses on news, reviews,
and tutorials of science and engineering resources available on the
Internet and related bulletin boards. Resources covered include FTP and
Telnet sites, electronic mailing lists, USENET newsgroups, World Wide Web
pages, FAQs, and more.

"The Internet is growing at a phenomenal pace," stated Shari Worthington,
editor of the new publication. Growth of new users is estimated at 10% per
month, with a total current population of 20 to 30 million users. With the
Internet's roots in government research, many of these users come from
scientific and engineering disciplines. "The biggest problem," she
continued, "is that the Internet changes on a daily basis. New servers
come online housing vast stores of software. And the growing popularity of
such easy-to-access vehicles as the World Wide Web (via Mosaic) and
Gopher, the problem is only compounded. What's needed is a roadmap to the
Internet and, soon to be, Information Superhighway, especially for
scientists and engineers, who need access to resources that allow them to
perform their jobs more cost-effectively and productively."

Science & Engineering Network News is designed as a concise information
vehicle for scientists and engineers. The publication is a complete guide
to exploring online resources, providing news, reviews, and tutorials.
Regular features include:

* Latest news about resources for specific technical disciplines, e.g.
biology, chemistry, medicine/health, molecular biology, space sciences,
social sciences, control engineering, materials science, physics, and
software engineering/computer science.

* Cross-disciplinary feature articles on such technologies as imaging,
math/stats, data analysis & visualization, data acquisition, modeling &
simulation, DSP & multimedia, and tools for Mac, DOS/Windows, and UNIX.

* Rated reviews of sites, mail lists, and electronic journals.

* Tutorials on Internet protocols for accessing information online and
using the new front-ends, such as Mosaic.

* Reviews of Internet books and CD-ROMs.

Science & Engineering Network News is edited by Shari L.S. Worthington. Ms
Worthington brings to the publication a proven track record in editing and
publishing in the computer industry, most recently the SciTech Journal,
the monthly technical magazine of the MacSciTech Users Association. She
has 15 years experience in marketing to the scientific and engineering
computing community and is a member of the Newsletter Publishers
Association. Ms Worthington holds a BS in biology and psychology, MA in
psychology, and an MBA in marketing.

SENN's in-house editorial staff includes Michael Duncan, PhD, a laser
physicist at the Naval Research Laboratory. Dr. Duncan is an Internet
expert who teaches courses on how to use and navigate the Internet. He is
also an experienced writer who frequently contributes to technical
journals. Donald Barstow is also a Sr. Editor. A software engineering
manager at Sequoia Computer, Mr. Barstow is a UNIX system software guru
and an Internet and networking expert. In addition to his writing duties,
Mr. Barstow will be responsible for setting up SENN's online presence.
SENN is also supported by an extensive network of contributing editors,
each a specialist in their own technical discipline.

Science & Engineering Network News is available at a charter subscriber
rate of $97, US and Canada; $150, international.
