SHIVA CORPORATION INTRODUCES ISDN-BASED REMOTE ACCESS PRODUCTS

Communications Server Also Announced as Supplement to Full Line of ERemote
Access Technology

NETWORLD + INTEROP, ATLANTA, September 26, 1995 -- Shiva Corporation today
announced the ShivaIntegrator ISDN remote access systems and the ShivaPort
communications server. ShivaIntegrator 500 and ShivaIntegrator 100 offer
secure, ISDN-based LAN-to-LAN remote access between branch offices and the
corporate LAN. ShivaPort offers a cost-effective Ethernet connection for
serial devices such as terminals, printers and modems and supports
high-speed remote dial-in.

The ShivaIntegrator and ShivaPort products enhance Shiva's current remote
access solutions that include analog and digital dial-up remote access
products, that address the remote connectivity needs of small workgroups
to large worldwide enterprises. In a related announcement today, Shiva
outlined its Enterprise ISDN remote access strategy that encompasses
technology, products and services for high-speed, remote dial-up
connectivity to corporate LAN resources, the Internet, and other public
and private networks.

Previously available from Spider Systems, Limited, the award-winning
ShivaIntegrator and ShivaPort products have an installed base of tens of
thousands of users in Europe. This announcement signifies the first of
several product announcements resulting from Shiva's recent acquisition of
Spider.

"With the addition of ShivaIntegrator and ShivaPort, our customers can now
take advantage of the performance benefits of ISDN both for the dial-in
remote worker with a digital modem and for high-speed LAN-to-LAN
connectivity between central sites and branch offices," explained Frank
Ingari, CEO of Shiva. "Furthermore, these announcements underscore Shiva's
commitment to provide a full line of remote access products for the
smallest to the largest enterprises, including award- winning remote
access and communication servers and superior client software."

ShivaIntegrator Family

ShivaIntegrator is a family of ISDN remote access systems that implement
Tariff Management, a unique set of cost-containment features for
minimizing telephone charges over costly WAN links. ShivaIntegrator 500, a
central site concentrator, and ShivaIntegrator 100, an ISDN access server
for small or branch offices, work together to provide secure, high-speed
LAN-to-LAN remote access between branch offices and central sites. Both
products are ideally suited for Novell, Microsoft and UNIX networking
environments.

ShivaIntegrator 500 supports 46 WAN interfaces including Primary Rate ISDN
(PRI), Basic Rate ISDN (BRI), X.25 and V.35 for leased line connections.
With three ports, ShivaIntegrator 500 has two PRI interfaces and one
leased line interface.

ShivaIntegrator 100 can be used to provide small branch offices with remote
connectivity to a central LAN or to connect several small satellite
offices. With two BRI interfaces, the ShivaIntegrator 100 supports
connection speeds up to 128 Kbps.

All ShivaIntegrator products implement Tariff Management and spoofing so
that while users experience the full performance benefits of ISDN,
organizations can minimize and control data communications costs.

Tariff Management

In addition to providing robust connectivity, Shiva is also focused on
helping its users manage their phone bill expenses. Tariff Management
provides several cost-minimizing features when using switched services,
including:

-- Bandwidth-on-demand - optimizes the use of the WAN services availability
by ensuring that a service is only being used when required and not being
paid for when there is not data to be sent;

-- Bandwidth augmentation - optimizes performance by combining additional
channels when extra bandwidth is required;

-- Data compression - minimizes information sent across the WAN;

-- Connection prioritization - the ability to assign priority to
applications that have an urgent need to access data remotely;

-- Spoofing - keeps chatty protocols from running up big phone bills by
filtering out services frames at one end of the link and emulating them at
the other. ShivaIntegrator products spoof IP and IPX protocols. According
to a November, 1994 Data Communications Magazine review of ten ISDN
routers, "Spider's Integrator (now ShivaIntegrator) was the only ISDN
router evaluated that could spoof all IPX broadcasts, an absolutely
critical concern if chatty LAN protocols are going to be kept off costly
WAN links.";

-- Time based tariff management - the ability to specify which WAN service
should be used at a particular time of day, because WAN services have
different telephone charges at different times of the day; and

-- Transparent backup - activates a secondary link if the primary link
fails. When the primary link comes back up, traffic is transparently
transferred back to it.

ShivaPort

ShivaPort is a high-performance, multiprotocol communications server for
Ethernet networks. ShivaPort provides a cost-effective means for
connecting large numbers of terminals, printers, modems and other serial
devices to a LAN. In addition to simple terminal access, comprehensive
security, and printing and network management features, ShivaPort also
offers high-speed dial-in remote access.

ShivaPort is available in 8-, 16- and 32-line variants with high- speed
lines that support speeds of up to 115.2 Kbps. IP addresses can be
dynamically addressed for ease of administration and management. And,
because an audit trail of connections and users logged in is maintained by
ShivaPort, network managers can view the activity on the network at any
time.

For remote access, ShivaPort supports standard PPP-based remote client
software. Support for TACACS and Security Dynamics SecureID provide added
security by validating remote users before they connect to the network.

Pricing And Availability

ShivaIntegrator products and ShivaPort will be available in the U.S. at the
end of 1995. ShivaIntegrator 500 pricing starts at $11,999, and includes
one PRI interface and all software including IP and IPX routing. Shiva
Integrator 100 pricing starts at $1,299, and ShivaPort pricing starts at
$2,299. All products will be available domestically through Shiva Premium
VARs and major national distributors including Ingram Micro, Merisel, Tech
Data and Gates/FA.
