SHIVA OUTLINES ENTERPRISE ISDN REMOTE ACCESS STRATEGY

Supplements Existing Product Portfolio with Delivery of High-Speed ISDN
Products

NETWORLD+INTEROP, ATLANTA, September 26, 1995 -- Shiva Corporation today
outlined its Enterprise ISDN strategy for high-speed, remote dial-up
connectivity to corporate LAN resources and multiple public and private
networks. By combining the digital LAN-to-LAN products and expertise
gained from the Spider acquisition with its leading single-user dial-up
products, Shiva is the first full-line remote access solutions vendor that
can truly offer an integrated set of analog and digital products,
technology and services to address the remote connectivity needs of the
enterprise. As part of this strategy, Shiva introduced in a related
announcement today, three new products including two ISDN-based products,
ShivaIntegrator 100 and ShivaIntegrator 500, and the ShivaPort
communications server.

"Shiva is on schedule and on target with our ISDN strategy after the Spider
acquisition and with the many alliances we have recently formed," said
Frank Ingari, Shiva's CEO. "This puts us in the best position to educate
the marketplace on ISDN and assist enterprise- wide deployment with our
worldwide network consulting and support services."

Enterprise ISDN Strategy

Shiva's Enterprise ISDN strategy provides a comprehensive integrated
approach to ISDN that leverages its remote access expertise and
partnerships to meet the needs of enterprise customers, Internet Service
Providers and telecommunications companies. This strategy focuses on high-
speed transparent access to both public and private networks with Tariff
Management capabilities to minimize telephone charges over costly WAN
links. As part of this strategy, Shiva plans to:

-- Integrate Shiva and Spider technology to provide one product set under a
single architecture.

-- Deliver a comprehensive approach to meeting enterprise customer needs
for ISDN and network management. This approach will include both
single-user client software with digital modems dialing into a LAN and the
LAN-to-LAN remote router method. Additionally, Shiva will build upon
Spider's strength in graphical network management to include environments
such as HP Openview.

-- Focus on client software bringing the benefits of its client expertise
and Windows 95 compatibility to ISDN remote access.

-- Commit to security and open industry standards such as MLP, PPP and CAPI
to protect customers' investments.

-- Meet the needs of the carrier market by incorporating WAN protocols for
voice networks and "pay-as-you-go packet services" such as X.25 and Frame
Relay. For instance, Shiva's new Frame Relay software is being
incorporated in the RAPPORT Dialup Switch product from Nortel's Magellan
Division.

-- Leverage best-of-breed strategic partnerships with a number of industry
leaders including Hewlett-Packard, Racal Datacom, and IBM to provide
remote access solutions in a variety of form factors. Today, Shiva also
announced an alliance with XcelleNet.

New Products

At Atlanta Interop this week, Shiva demonstrated its ISDN capabilities and
briefed customers on three new products. ShivaIntegrator 100 is a small or
branch office ISDN access server that supports two ISDN channels for
connectivity to other branch offices or the central network.
ShivaIntegrator 500 is a central site concentrator that provides 46 WAN
interfaces including Primary Rate ISDN (PRI), Basic Rate (BRI), X.25 and
V.35 for leased line connections. ShivaPort is an easy-to-use
multiprotocol, high-throughput communications server offering an extensive
feature set and protocol support.

Breadth of Products

Shiva's product portfolio includes a full-line of analog and digital remote
access servers and switches that enable telecommuters, mobile
professionals and branch offices to dial-in to a Local Area Network (LAN)
via remote node PC-to-LAN or LAN-to-LAN dial-up connections through both
public and private networks. These same products can also provide
LAN-based users the ability to make secure dial-out (PC-to-WAN)
connections and enable outbound faxing from their desktop to the Internet
and other on-line services. And, Shiva now provides communications servers
for PC-to-Host connections.

Technology Licensing

Client software has always been one of Shiva's core competencies. The
robustness and ease-of-use of Shiva's client has been the catalyst for
many OEM licensing agreements of its ShivaPPP client software with
companies including Netscape, Microsoft, NetManage, and Farrallon.
Traveling Software will also incorporate ShivaPPP. In Europe, Shiva
licenses communications software to many of the world's leading OEM
computer and communications manufacturers. In addition, Applied
Innovations will incorporate Shiva's frame relay software into its switch
interconnection modules.

consultation services. These programs help Shiva's enterprise customers
and prospects evaluate their needs; determine the right product strategy;
provide deployment and implementation assistance and ensure maximum
