XcelleNet And Shiva Announce Strategic Alliance

Companies to recommend each others products for comprehensive remote
enterprise computing solutions

ATLANTA (September 25, 1995)--XcelleNet, a leader in connection-deferred
remote enterprise computing, and Shiva, a leader in the remote LAN access
market, have announced a strategic marketing alliance that is expected to
simplify and improve the way remote and mobile computer users access
centralized information.

The alliance is in response to the application requirements of
organizations with large numbers of mobile workers for solutions that
seamlessly blend remote LAN access technology with applications
infrastructure technology.

XcelleNet and Shiva will cooperate on providing products that may be
integrated into a one-button solution so that users, when initiating a
connection to a Shiva LanRover on the corporate LAN, will seamlessly
launch XcelleNet RemoteWare. The two companies already have mutual
customers and are working closely to insure these customers receive the
benefits of the alliance. XcelleNet and Shiva will also undertake joint
marketing initiatives, including channel activities, joint account
development, and market education.

XcelleNet RemoteWare provides an applications infrastructure that
anticipates the connection-deferred requirement of remote enterprise
computing applications. Customers utilize RemoteWare to create application
systems that are ideal for field team transaction sharing, compound
database queries, and subscription and messaging services.

Shiva LanRover offers remote workers high-speed, multiprotocol,
multiplatform access to LAN services through a single, secure doorway,
essentially extending the corporate network to make a remote user a
fully-functional node on the LAN. Because of Shivas corporate focus on
remote access, end-users benefit from an optimized solution that
encompasses interoperability, remote adapted routing, reliability,
usability and security for dial- in, dial-out and dial-up LAN-to-LAN
connections.

Together, RemoteWare and LanRover offer customers with large field
organizations a one-button solution for optimized, secure, and manageable
access to connection-deferred as well as connection-dependent
applications.

Historically, XcelleNet and Shiva have approached remote computing from
different viewpoints, explained Dennis Crumpler, XcelleNets CEO. Our
primary approach with RemoteWare has been one of enabling remote
applications for people who simply cannot log on in order to do their
jobs. We've concentrated--via our client/agent/server architecture -- on
building the infrastructure to allow remote users the same type of
highly-visual, easy-to-use desktop environment enjoyed by those who are
directly connected to a LAN.

Remote users will have the flexibility to access any application on a LAN,
including e-mail, forms, reporting, contact management, and many others
through a single, seamless system that is optimized whether or not a LAN
connection is present. For corporate technology managers, the remote
applications and the remote connections are controllable, and easily
configurable and modifiable.

These are two forward-thinking companies with complementary technology,
added Frank Ingari, chairman, CEO and president of Shiva. Through the
years, weve learned there is no single right or wrong solution to all
customer access problems. Working with XcelleNet will enable us to provide
an enhanced solution for large-scale remote access deployment that builds
on Shivas longtime focus of providing remote access solutions that are
fully optimized from client to server.

One company that is already benefiting from the relationship between
XcelleNet and Shiva is Raychem Corporation, a $1.5 billion materials
science company. The North Carolina-based Telecom division uses the Shiva
LanRover remote access server in conjunction with RemoteWare in its sales
reporting and forecasting system. "XcelleNet's RemoteWare gives us the
tools to effectively develop and manage applications for our remote users,
said Frank Pleshe, Raychems networked systems engineer. Combined with
RemoteWare, LanRover gives our users secure, reliable, open access to all
network services.

A single button call automatically engages both products, added Donya Rose,
Raychems manager of business planning and strategy. Both XcelleNet and
Shiva have provided us with a simplified architecture and flexibility. As
a result, the process of accessing centralized information now appears to
be truly seamless.

XcelleNet and Shiva will be demonstrating the joint product technology at
the Networld + Interop show in Atlanta.
