COMPUSERVE AND SURFWATCH TEAM UP TO MAKE THE INTERNET SAFE FOR KIDS

Internet In A Box For Kids Now Contains SurfWatch Technology, The World's
Leading Software That Blocks Inappropriate Material For Children On The
Internet

SEATTLE, Wash., Oct. 10, 1995 - CompuServe Incorporated's Internet Division
today announced it will partner with SurfWatch Software, Inc. to develop
Internet In A Box for Kids. This product is the first retail package to
combine Internet access, parental control and an online community for
children.

CompuServe's Internet In A Box for Kids is an inexpensive and easy-to-use
Internet access program designed especially for children ages 8 to 14.
Based on the award-winning Internet In A Box package, Internet In A Box
for Kids includes SPRY Mosaic, SPRY Mail, low-cost Internet access, an
instructional video, a free subscription to a children's Web community
called FreeZone and a custom version of SurfWatch for CompuServe.
SurfWatch Software Inc. was the first company to ship Internet software
that blocks access to inappropriate material on the Internet.

"Giving students and teachers the software tools to freely navigate the
Internet is critical for educators who want to tightly couple computing in
their classrooms," said David Strom, noted computer industry columnist and
co-chair for the Citizen's Advisory Committee on Technology and Computers
for the Port Washington Union Free School District in New York. "I applaud
CompuServe and SurfWatch's initiative of creating software to filter
material that would be deemed inappropriate' by the teachers, parents and
school district. I feel Internet In A Box for Kids will more than
adequately address those concerns."

Approved By Adults

By integrating SurfWatch for CompuServe with Internet In A Box for Kids,
children's access to inappropriate content on the Internet will be
blocked. However, other components of Internet In A Box for Kids will
allow them to navigate the vast educational and information resources of
the Internet with ease and confidence.

"As a key part of Internet In A Box for Kids, SurfWatch for CompuServe will
help parents limit their child's access to unwanted material on the
Internet," said Bill Duvall, CEO of SurfWatch Software, Inc. "We are
pleased to be working with CompuServe to provide tools that give children
access to the power and educational value of the Internet while letting
parents continue to choose what they see."

"SurfWatch's award-winning technology, combined with our ability to provide
an easy and rewarding online experience, means kids and adults can now
roam the Internet without worrying about exposure to inappropriate
materials," said Tim Oren, vice president and general manager of
CompuServe's Internet Division.

FreeZone - An Online Community for Kids

Internet In A Box for Kids comes with a free subscription to FreeZone, the
world's first electronic community devoted to kids. Through FreeZone,
children can make new friends, play games, learn and explore the
Internet.

FreeZone also includes a Home Page Builder that will allow kids to stake
their claim on the Internet by becoming participants in this special
children's community. Kids will be able to create personal home pages
online by simply selecting graphical and thematic motifs. FreeZone also
includes Flash magazine, an electronic pen pal program, a homework
assistant - as well as directs link to thousand of Internet sites for
kids.

and surf the Web.
