Thompson Network Software Announces the Release of The Doctor Anti-Virus
for Windows 95

Atlanta, GA - September 1, 1995 - Thompson Network Software (TNS) announced
today the release of a new shareware product, The Doctor Anti-Virus for
Windows 95. It is the company's latest anti-virus software package for
networks and stand-alone PCs. Unlike MS-DOS 6.x, Windows 95 does not
include any anti-virus protection. Traditional DOS versions of anti-virus
software do not work properly with the new version, due to its 32-bit
architecture and long filename format. The Doctor Anti-Virus for Windows
95 by TNS fills this void.

Software Includes Real-Time Signature Scanning and a VxD

The Doctor for Windows 95 provides on-demand, real-time signature scanning
of disks and/or individual programs. Incorporated in The Doctor for
Windows 95 is a Virtual Device Driver (VxD) that automatically checks for
viruses on floppies and programs before they can infect the system. The
Doctor for Windows 95 is written specifically for Windows 95, supporting
the long filename format and 32-bit architecture.

Windows 95 a Conundrum for Anti-Virus Developers

Roger Thompson, President of TNS, explained that Windows 95 is something of
a conundrum for anti-virus developers. "The conflict," he said, "is that
existing anti-virus programs will not work with Windows 95, even though
existing viruses will." This situation arises from the fact that while
anti-virus programs have to be concerned about corrupting data or losing
information, viruses certainly do not. For instance, viruses do not have
to worry about the long filename format of Windows 95. "As an example of
this problem," Mr. Thompson said, "existing viruses may only work when a
DOS box is loaded, but anti-virus programs need to work at all times."

Anti-Virus Program Originally Written in 32-Bit Format

Rather than just revising the company's original anti-virus program, TNS's
technical developers completely rewrote the program to work in the 32-bit
environment of Windows 95. The only portion to remain in its previous form
is the scanning engine, which was already designed as a 32-bit
application. This gives The Doctor for Windows 95 a distinct advantage
over other anti-virus programs that have merely been adapted to meet the
standards of Windows 05.

Pricing and Availability

The Doctor Anti-Virus for Windows 95 costs only $29. This includes all BBS
upgrades and email technical support for an entire year. The advantage to
shareware is that it can be downloaded as fully functioning software and
tried before a commitment is made to purchase the program. The Doctor
Anti-Virus for Windows 95 is available as Doc95.zip on CompuServe: GO
DOCTOR, or at two ftp sites on the Internet:
ftp.mindspring.com/users/rogert and thomnet.com. It is also available from
TNS's private BBS: (770) 971-8886.

A commercial version of The Doctor Anti-Virus for Windows 95 is scheduled
for release on October 1, 1995. Dealer inquiries welcome.
