NETCOM And Wollongong Form Strategic Alliance to Support Industry Intranet
Channel

COMPANIES TO PROVIDE LEADING DISTRIBUTORS AND VARS TURNKEY INTRANET
SOLUTION FOR ADDRESSING CORPORATE INTERNET MARKET NEEDS

PALO ALTO, CA, SEPTEMBER 25, 1995 -- Wollongong, a technology leader in
object-oriented internetworking solutions, today announced that it has
formed a strategic alliance with NETCOM OnLine Communications Services,
Inc. (NASDAQ: NETC), one of the largest Internet service providers. The
alliance addresses the unanswered needs of national distributors and
resellers providing business Internet solutions. Together, the two
companies will provide "Emissary on NETCOM," a joint offering that
provides corporate users a cost-effective, turnkey solution for accessing
all of the Internet and the intranet.

"We're pleased to partner with NETCOM, a leading Internet service provider,
said Mary Broyles, Wollongong's director of channels and marketing
programs. "Corporate customers are demanding a turnkey solution for real
Internet and intranet business activity. The channel can now provide
one-stop shopping with the premier Internet client business software using
a premier Internet service. Our alliance with NETCOM reflects Wollongong's
commitment to providing the corporate market with a whole solution, as
well as supporting the needs of the channel."

Wollongong's Emissary Desktop and Emissary Office editions are the first of
a new family of Internet software that enables business users to browse,
access, organize, and work with all of the Internet and corporate
Intranets. Emissary uses an innovative object architecture to combine a
range of Internet facilities such as Web browsing, mail, news reading,
file retrieval and management, and interactive access into a single,
integrated Windows application.

The combination of Emissary's ease-of-use and transparent desktop
integration with NETCOM's high-speed quality service enables business
users to utilize the Internet's array of information resources in a
simple, cost-effective way. With Emissary, business users can continue to
utilize existing legacy systems while utilizing the Internet.
Additionally, Emissary eliminates the time-consuming process of loading
separate conversion and viewing programs in order to access different
types of information from the Internet, such as FTP files, JPEG file
formats, audio or MIME-encoded messages, to name a few.

"The reseller channel is looking for better and easier ways to connect
their customers to the Internet," said Ira Barkoe, GBC Technology's vice
president, business development. "As we strive to provide our reseller and
system integrator customers with more total solutions, we see the
partnership between Wollongong and NETCOM fitting well with our Internet
strategy to give the resellers what they want. As a long-time partner with
Wollongong, and as a new partner with NETCOM, we look forward to adding
these new Intranet solutions to our existing and new customers.

GROWING BUSINESS DEMAND FOR INTRANET SOLUTION

Today many businesses are focused on the commercial use of the Internet as
a tool to conduct business, establish an on-line presence, or create
externally focused marketing strategies and programs. Businesses are
increasingly transforming existing TCP/IP-based protocol stacks on their
networks into a new business tool, creating inwardly focused "intranets."
Intranets can be designed to empower employees with the tools to access
the Internet's vast array of resources, and also to create powerful
corporate systems such as Web sites for employee benefits and HR
processes, employee forums and communications, training and educational
programs, collaborative program management, intra- company project
management, among many others. Emissary's Desktop Edition is for corporate
users on a LAN, and Emissary Office Edition adds host access for corporate
users.

"Emissary is a natural fit for the corporate intranet user who doesn't have
time to sit down and figure out how all the Internet applications work,
stated Don Hutchison, NETCOM's senior vice president of sales. "Emissary's
integrated functionality and NETCOM's high-speed digital network enable
users to quickly access, browse, organize and work over the Net. The
NETCOM/ Wollongong paring provides a complete Internet solution for
business.
