UniKix Technologies Provides Web Access For CICS

Applications WebKix Offers Internet Access Via Web Browsers To CICS
Applications Enabling Commerce On The Web

BILLERICA, MA--UniKix Technologies announced beta delivery of its WebKix*
server software, which provides Internet/World Wide Web access to CICS
applications supporting 3270 terminal interfaces. WebKix provides the
translation mechanism between any PC equipped with a Web browser, such as
Netscape, and any CICS application that supports a 3270 terminal
interface.

The new WebKix capability is expected to significantly strengthen the
opportunities for electronic commerce, because it eliminates the costly
step of developing GUI front-ends for CICS terminal-based applications
which drive many banking and financial transactions. As a result,
companies will be able to offer customers direct access, via the Internet,
to services and information.

WebKix produces an external presentation interface that enables Web
browsers to directly access CICS applications running on a local UNIX
server. Via inter-systems communications, any other CICS application on a
network can be accessed, providing unprecedented application navigation
capabilities.

With electronic commerce becoming a key strategic imperative of the FORTUNE
1000 companies, providing access to information-rich CICS applications is
essential. "Most CICS applications provide powerful business solutions,
but only to the users within that SNA network. Until now it has been
impossible for these CICS companies to conduct business with a much wider
audience on the Internet," stated Aiden Harney, vice president of research
and development at UniKix Technologies.

CICS high volume transaction applications abound in the financial world,
traditionally in the brokerage and banking area. Many of these
institutions, aiming to gain a competitive edge, are rushing to offer
their customers applications such as stock trading and portfolio
management via the Internet. Forrester Research estimates that by the year
2000, $46.2 billion of financial assets will be managed on the Internet.

"This release of WebKix provides a distinct advantage to CICS based
companies who are looking for ways of offering access to CICS applications
via the Internet. It brings together the huge portfolio of CICS business
applications with the tens of millions of World Wide Web users," Harney
said.

David Matthews, UniKix Technologies vice president of business development,
added: "WebKix also offers users of private corporate TCP/IP networks a
very cost-effective and powerful desktop interface, using Web browser
software such as Netscape, installed on their networks. We also expect to
see rapid adoption of this technology by the major independent software
vendors who need to provide access to the Internet from their
applications."

WebKix is implemented as server software, running under the UniKix
CICS-on-UNIX transaction processing monitor, and is available on the
leadingUNIX servers. Besides a Web browser, no special software is needed
on the PC and no gateway box is required. WebKix is currently available
for beta shipments and detailed pricing will be announced later.

UniKix Technologies develops and markets UniKix, the leading CICS-on-UNIX
transaction processing monitor and associated products and services that
enable the Global 1000 and ISV's to revitalize legacy applications by
taking advantage of the price/performance and client/server capabilities
offered by UNIX platforms. UniKix Technologies has over 200 customers
worldwide, and is headquartered in Billerica, Massachusetts with
development centers in Phoenix, Arizona, and European services and support
in London, England.
