NEW VERBATIM QIC TECHNOLOGY TO TOP 19 GB IN 1997

5 GB Product Under Development For 1996 Shipment

CHARLOTTE, NC, October 20, 1995 - Verbatim Corporation's new QIC-EXtrax
minicartridge technology, which was recently approved by the Quarter-Inch
Cartridge Drive Standards, Inc., will provide users with 19 GB of
uncompressed capacity by 1997 utilizing the QIC-3230 format.

"Our 3.5-inch minicartridge technology has a planned migration path to 25
GB and beyond. We'll deliver 5 GB minicartridges in 1996," says Ken
Cruden, manager of corporate product marketing at Verbatim Corporation.

"However, our first available QIC-EXtrax product is the DC-2120-EX which
provides 400 MB uncompressed on QIC 80 format drives. QIC-3020 formatted
cartridges in the QIC-EXtra product line also will ship this year. This
will allow users with QIC-3020 format drives to achieve over 3.2 GB with
data compression. Soon we will introduce cartridges with wide tape
(.315-inch) which will have capacities ranging from 1.1 GB to 4.4 GB."

Verbatim's QIC-EXtra solution is elegantly simple in that it doesn't
require any changes to QIC drive designs. It is compatible with new
Travanx drive designs so that both users and drive manufacturers find
solutions to their needs.

"Because this QIC-EXtra cartridge product line builds upon existing
standards, our technology supports all QIC minicartridge drive
manufacturers," Cruden says.

"And users with newer drives are assured that cartridges written on them
will be compatible with the installed base of drives having the same data
formats."

Additional benefits of this new technology include:

* a standardized growth path for QIC drive and media manufacturers

* a family of products with uncompressed capacities from 400 MB to at least
1.6 GB available in 1995 with a planned migration path in step with
increasing hard drive capacities

* consumer capacity options in a single drive with a simple cartridge
change

* large storage capacity for use with newer applications

* a practical design for cost-effective drives and media

* compatibility with current and proposed minicartridge formats, as well as
compatibility with currently installed QIC drives

While this innovative technology brings huge increases in capacity, the
internal mechanics and tape transport remain faithful to existing
technology. So, you get the highest capacities available while maintaining
the high reliability and data integrity associated with the traditional
QIC cartridge.

Verbatim Corporation, based in Charlotte, NC, is one of the world's top
image and data storage media technology developers. Since 1969, Verbatim
has been an industry leader in both magnetic and optical storage
technology.
