GOLF BALL DYNAMICS CAPTURED BY CCD CAMERA

October 1, 1995 -- Wintriss Engineering (San Diego, CA) has introduced its
new PC-based OPSIS 3100A CCD camera for velocity measurement, assembly
verification, and other machine vision applications. Originally designed
for measuring the in-flight parameters of golf balls, the OPSIS 3100A uses
a 648 x 484 pixel array operating at a minimum of 60 full frames/second.
Features include asynchronous image capture, electronic shutter rates
exceeding 1/30,000 second, and a trigger output for external strobing. The
OPSIS 3100A digitizes video to 8 or 10 bits/pixel on-camera (selectable)
and transmits this data using the Cypress HOTLink protocol at 330Mbits/sec
for image processing. Camera functions are programmable via RS232 or
HOTLink. Wintriss Engineering offers two processing boards compatible with
the HOTLink: a PCI-based board offering a full rate video capture
capability using bus master DMA; and for higher end applications, a dual
channel board providing FPGA pipeline-processing at 33MHz on the front end
coupled with DSP (two Texas Instruments 40MHz TMS320C30's) at the back
end. Wintriss Engineering is currently developing custom machine vision
solutions using the OPSIS 3100A in single or multiple camera
configurations. Contact Peter Burggren at Wintriss Engineering, 6342
Ferris Square, San Diego, CA 92121-3244. (800) 550-7300 or (619) 550-7300.
