XSoft and Toshiba Advanced Systems Announce Partnership To Deliver
InContext Software To Japanese Market

PALO ALTO, Calif., October 23, 1995 -- The XSoft business unit of Fuji
Xerox Information Systems and Japan-based Toshiba Advanced Systems Co.,
Ltd. today announced that Toshiba Advanced Systems will distribute XSoft
InContext, a structured-document authoring program, to the Japanese
market. Toshiba Advanced Systems will localize InContext for Japanese
users, targeting industries that are adopting the Standard Generalized
Markup Language (SGML) as a corporate publishing direction.

Many industries worldwide are turning to SGML to structure documents and
make their information easier to manage. Because this can significantly
reduce the time and cost of document production, several influential U.S.
industry organizations have mandated the use of SGML, including the
Telecommunications Industry Forum, the Environmental Protection Agency and
the Air Transport Association. In Japan, early SGML adopters include the
automotive manufacturing, utilities, and semiconductor industries, where
companies have rigorous process control requirements.

InContext enables users of Windows-based personal computers to quickly and
easily create, edit and navigate structured documents that support SGML.
Unlike most other SGML authoring programs, InContext allows novice users
to create SGML files just as they would create documents with a
traditional word processor. Users do not need to know SGML in order to
work with InContext, which is accessed through an easy-to-use interface
and can be used as either a stand-alone product or part of an
enterprise-wide publishing system.

David McQuilkin, general manager of XSoft in Japan, stated, "In Japan, as
in the United States, SGML is becoming a necessity for companies producing
complex, multi-author documents that require continuous changes over a
long period of time. By bringing InContext to the growing Japanese market,
we will provide customers with the power and flexibility of SGML authoring
without the complexities or training requirements generally associated
with SGML."

Pricing and availability for the Japanese version of InContext have not yet
been announced.

In February 1995, XSoft announced a partnership with Toshiba to bring
InConcert, XSoft's powerful workflow software, to the Japanese market. Two
months later, XSoft and Fuji Xerox Information Systems officially
established XSoft operations in Japan.
