Zenith Data Systems goes after Pentium portable market with two new
Pentium-based notebooks

Z-NOTE GT - multimedia-optimized with the industry's first 11.3-inch SVGA
TFT display

Z-NOTE MX - affordable Pentium performance with AccuPad pointing device

BUFFALO GROVE, III. -- October 16, 1995 -- Zenith Data Systems (ZDS) is
aiming to capture a large portion of the Pentium portable PC market with
two new additions to the Z-NOTE Pentium notebook family: the
top-of-the-line Z-NOTE GT optimized for multimedia and with a
first-to-market 11.3-inch SVGA TFT display and optional internal MPEG
card, and the mid-range Z-NOTE MX designed for affordable portable
Pentium performance featuring the innovative AccuPad pointer/mouse. This
launch firmly positions ZDS as a leader in the high-end and mid-range
notebook markets.

"With these two new Z-NOTE Pentium-based notebooks, ZDS intends to seize a
big slice of the Pentium portable PC pie and re-establish itself as a
serious player in the high-end and expanding midrange notebook market,"
said Cliff Jenks, executive vice president of sales and marketing at ZDS.
"The new Z-NOTE GT is a show-stopping performer that stops at nothing and
is ideal for ultimate mobile multimedia hounds. And our mainstream Z-NOTE
MX gives our performance-wise yet budget-conscious customers the top
performance and features they want at affordable prices."

Z-NOTE GT: 11.3-inch SVGA TFT, Best-of-Class Multimedia and Advanced
Performance

ZDS is the first to market a huge, 11.3-inch SVGA TFT screen and among the
first with an 11.3-inch SVGA DSTN with the new Z-NOTE GT. The SVGA screens
allow users to see over 50 percent more information than a comparable VGA
screen.

"ZDS has made a serious investment and commitment to standardize on SVGA
display technology in our new Z-NOTE GT product line," commented Mike
Wilson, senior director of portable product marketing at ZDS. "The
11.3-inch SVGA LCDs represent some of the largest, highest-resolution
displays currently available, and we are proud to be the first to offer
this exciting, advanced technology to our customers."

The Z-NOTE GT takes portable multimedia to new dimensions with
broadcast-quality, full-motion, full-screen video support and Sound
Blaster Pro-compatible audio. The optional MPEG video playback card
provides smooth, 30fps, full-screen video playback and can be installed in
its own slot - rather than requiring the user to make trade-offs to
utilize this feature - and runs on battery power. ZDS is the first to
market a notebook system that has both an 11.3-inch TFT SVGA display and
an internal MPEG video playback card, further propelling Zenith Data
Systems' new notebook way ahead of the competition.

For exciting and rich CD capabilities, the Z-NOTE GT features a
fully-integrated, upgradable, modular CD-ROM drive standard on all
configurations and Sound Blaster Pro-compatible audio, Labtec stereo
headphones and an on-board microphone. An audio in/out jack and a manual
volume control dial provide for superior audio recording and playback and
standard NTSC/PAL TV video-out enables users to project images onto most
televisions that support video-in for larger-than-life presentations. The
complete multimedia system also includes a two-CD set from Softkey's
Multimedia Library with a collection of thousands of video clips,
photography and sound.

"With its extra-large viewing area and CD-ROM capability, the Z-NOTE GT is
perfect for service fleets and sales professionals who need to display and
view large quantities of information on their portables. Not only will
they love this portable multimedia powerhouse, but so will people who do
interactive training, seminars, large software installations, or those who
enjoy audio CDs and CD games or movies in their work or travel," said
Wilson. "The Z-NOTE GT is engineered especially for todays mobile
professionals who really need no-compromise multimedia."

To run such maximized multimedia, the Z-NOTE GT is heavily equipped with a
powerful 64-bit Mobile Pentium 75 MHz or 90 MHz processor, super-fast
810MB or 1.3GB EIDE hard disk drives and 8MB RAM expandable to 40MB.
Performance is boosted by PCI local-bus architecture, 256K secondary
cache, and 1MB video DRAM and a built-in video graphics accelerator.

The Z-NOTE GT offers an exclusive SmartBay modular design which gives
consumers ultimate flexibility to drop in an optional second hard drive,
or swap out the CD-ROM drive for a 3.5-inch 1.44MB floppy drive or an
optional second NMH or Li-Ion battery. The notebook also pops into an
infrared-capable port replicator that can connect the Z-NOTE GT to an
external monitor, printer, keyboard, mouse and other primary office
resources in a snap. In addition, it simutaneously supports Type II and
Type m PC Cards for even more flexibility and expansion.

All Z-NOTE GTs include a serial infrared lens port and Puma's TranXit
Infrared File Transfer Software pre-installed, enabling users to conduct
wireless file transfers. Then, unlike most notebooks that require the user
to get an infrared device driver from the manufacturer, ZDS includes a
Windows 95 or Windows for Workgroups Extended Systems' IR Device Driver in
all Z-NOTE GTs to allow for out-of-the-box point-and-beam printing.

To top it all off this notebook comes complete with a robust suite of
preloaded popular software. Qualified for the "Designed for Microsoft
Windows 95" logo, Z-NOTE GTs ship with a Windows 95 optimized keyboard and
the customers' choice of Windows 95 or Windows for Workgroups with MS-DOS.
Windows 95 configurations of the Z-NOTE GT come with the following
software pre-installed: Netscape Navigator Personal Edition for Internet
access; Norton Navigator; Norton AntiVirus; CoSession Remote to assist ZDS
with service and maintenance; TranXit for file transfer via infrared
remote control; and EZ-Companion, a ZDS software suite that offers an
interactive tour and information about the PC and Windows 95, plus
provides a direct connection to the online ZDS information service for
help. Windows for Workgroups/MS-DOS configurations substitute PC Tools for
Norton Navigator and Norton AntiVirus and also includes the OAG Flight
Disk for easy airline scheduling, Mind Path Presentations F/X and
Microsoft Sound System for dynamic presentations.

Options include a quad-speed CD-ROM upgrade for $199, and a Lithium Ion
battery pack priced at $259. Both will be available in December 1995.

Z-NOTE GTs measure 12 x 9.1 x 2.2 inches (WDH). DSTN systems with CD-ROM
are 8.3 pounds and 8 pounds with the FDD. Active-matrix units with the
CD-ROM drive weigh 7.9 pounds and 7.6 pounds with the FDD. On NMH
batteries, users can expect two to four hours of computing, and three to
six with Li-Ion batteries.

Z-NOTE MX: The Right Mix of Performance, Features and Value

The new Z-NOTE MX from ZDS is the mid-range Pentium-based performer in the
portable family. For ultra-efficient power, it uses the cool-running 75
MHz Intel Mobile Pentium processor, 256K L2 cache and PCI local-bus video
with a Windows accelerator. The Z-NOTE MX offers 10.4-inch DSTN and SVGA
TFT displays, hard drive options up to 810MB and memory expandable from
8MB to 40MB to provide ample support for Windows 95 and other 32-bit
applications.

Engineered for superior portability, the Z-NOTE MX features an integrated
AC adapter module for a lighter load that swaps easily with the floppy
disk drive module. It can also be traded for a second battery module to
instantly double the notebook's battery life, or operated external to the
system while the floppy drive is inserted.

"We identified what our customers wanted in a basic Pentium portable and
developed the Z-NOTE MX-a solid, mid-range system that offers top-notch,
affordable performance in a package that travels extremely well," said
Wilson. "ZDS has also thrown in a few innovations just to spice it up a
bit, but without bumping the price."

For instance, the Z-NOTE MX features the touch-sensitive AccuPad that
functions both as a pointer and mouse. The user intuitively controls
cursor movement by tracing a finger along the AccuPad surface. And like
the Z-NOTE GT, this new notebook is also ready to ride the portable
multimedia wave. It features an integrated 16-bit Sound Blaster-compatible
stereo sound system with high-quality microphone support that enables
hand-free recording of sound or voice messages. Dual on-board stereo
speakers, external headphone and microphone line jacks further extend
Z-NOTE MX capabilities beyond basic business audio.

The Z-NOTE MX offers the optional ReadyDesk port replicator as a
cost-effective bridge between stationary office peripherals and the
notebook. The Z-NOTE MX also supports PC Card flexibility, with room for
two Type II or one Type III PC Card.

In addition, Z-NOTE MXs ship with a Windows 95-optimized keyboard, and ZDS
pre-installs a completely integrated software suite to boost productivity
and value. Systems preconfigured with the Microsoft Windows 95 package
include Netscape Navigator Personal Edition and Norton Navigator, plus
CoSession for remote ZDS support and ZDS EZ-Companion -- custom designed
software to make using the system and taking full-advantage of Windows 95
robust features even easier. Microsoft Windows for Workgroups/MS-DOS
Z-NOTE MXs include Netscape, PC Tools for system management and CoSession.

Z-NOTE MXs measure 11.1 x 8.7 x 1.9 inches (WDH). Dual-scan systems with
battery are only 5.9 pounds while active-matrix units with battery weigh
6.1 pounds. Users can expect over four hours of battery life with two
batteries installed.

Z-NOTE MX Pricing and Availability

All Z-NOTE MXs come with a Pentium 75 MHz processor, 8MB RAM and choice of
Windows 95 or Windows for Workgroups/MS-DOS with the appropriate
integrated software suite. A system configured with a 10.4-inch SVGA TFT
display and an 810MB HDD has an estimated street price of $3,699. With a
10.4-inch DSTN screen and 540MB HDD, the price is $2,899. And for $2,799
users can get a Z-NOTE MX with a 10.4-inch DSTN and 420MB HDD.

Z-NOTE MXs will be available in late October through authorized resellers.
