                       LESSON 2.2: ARTICLE THEMES ACCESS

================================================================================
              - Return to beginner's search tutorial <FILE031>
              - Return to navigation in hypertext <3A263C>
              - Return to LESSON 2.1 <FILE033>
================================================================================

              Let's look at the "Article Themes" file right now!
              Hence, invoke the file, look at it a few seconds,
              then return here. <LK104>

              ========================
              WHAT ARE ARTICLE THEMES?
              ========================

              You saw five separate headings, what we
              specifically call "article themes," starting with
              "Beverages." Think of the themes as the broadest or
              most general labels of topics, subjects, ideas,
              etc. that are contained in the network.

              In the the "Article Themes" file, these labels -
              themes - reside at the top of a hierarchy which
              leads to subthemes or sub topics placed in
              hierarchical order.

              Invoke the links next to the themes, and you will
              see a screen appear listing SUB TOPICS or subthemes
              connected to the themes mentioned in file <LK104>.

              =======
              EXAMPLE
              =======

              For example, invoke <LK104>, then invoke the link
              next to "Beverages." Linger there a few seconds and
              return here. (As an alternative, invoke the latter
              from here <LK151>.

              What happened? If all went well, you saw a screen
              titled "Beverages - article themes." In the bottom
              half of the screen, you saw "SUB TOPICS:" and a
              listing beginning with "Alcoholic beverages <LK172>"
              Proceed to that file from here and then return.

              What happened? If all went well, you saw a list
              with only one heading under "Associated topics."
              That heading is called "Taste." Invoke this
              "associated topic" from here and return: <ABS07>

              =================================
              WHAT DOES ASSOCIATED TOPICS MEAN?
              =================================

              "Associated topics" refers to an important idea,
              issue, or topic which is dealt with in abstracted
              articles. (An "abstract" is NOT the article itself,
              only a summary of what its contents are or what it
              is about.) The topic is called "associated" because
              the topic is closely connected to the topic
              mentioned at the top of the screen in information
              contained by an abstract. Hence, when you invoked
              the file in the brackets, you reached an abstract
              of an article which is largely or in part about the
              topic you invoked AND the topic found on the top or
              first line of the screen.

              Look at the node again <LK172> for a second, then
              return here.

              In more specific search terms, this means that the
              link for the topic of "taste" under the broader
              heading/label of "Alcoholic beverages" leads to an
              abstract about taste in an alcoholic beverage, in
              this case, vodka, as you would know when you
              invoked the link here. (Repeat this again for
              review: <ABS07>)

              When you looked at the abstract, you may have
              noticed another highlighted link called "TASTE."
              This is a different type of link, which is
              discussed in the next lesson. Take a breather!
