AFS is an Aerodynamics and Flight Simulator.

The aerodynamic part permit to select aerodynamics properties
         of your airplane.

There is also a build section (sizing, stress analisis, etc...)
that permit to check what technologies are needed to achieve
         both aerodynamics and structurals goals.

The fly now section permit to fly the concept and check viability.
It also permit to practice instrument flying(see log files).

How To install And Run AFS from a CD-ROM

Load the shareware CD-ROM and type :

install [root drive] [target drive] FULL or MIN

with (target drive is your HD drive )
and (root drive is you CD-ROM drive

   eg :
        install.bat e: c: FULL
        install.bat e: c:\simulator FULL

FULL option is recommended, it allows patches and
version updates on your hard disk, but in order to save
hard disk space, you can choose MIN as installation option.

If you choose MIN as installation option, you must re-install
AFS with FULL option if you get an update or a patch.

How To Download And Install AFS from a FTP site

Check our web server at www.mm-soft.fr/raw/afs-sim to
get the latest AFS anonymous FTP distribution sites

The easiest way to download AFS is to retrieve each part step by step
each part is named with the following convention :

           AFS<xx>P<yy>

Where xx stands for AFS version and, yy stands for part number.
The following parts are distributed:

           AFS01P01.ZIP size 1215656
           AFS01P02.ZIP size 1296300
           AFS01P03.ZIP size 1384375
           AFS01P04.ZIP size 1157605
           AFS01P05.ZIP size 1357867
           AFS01P06.ZIP size 1269616

To download and install AFS :

 1) create a directory called AFS in your Hard Disk, be sure that you
have at least 30 Mo of free space.

 2) put your FTP session into binary mode (type 'binary', without the quotes)

 2) down load all part, quit the FTP session

 3) go to AFS directory and uncompress all binary files, ie , for each
files that you have downloaded type 'pkunzip -D AFS<xx>P<yy>.ZIP'
    without the quotes.

 4) when all parts are uncompressed execute the following command :

    'install.bat <Absolute path of AFS directory> FTP'

    eg: install.bat c:\afs FTP

brake are actualy an automatic_braking device
it does use the friction coefficient of the ground
and apply maximum (brake pressure)within the limits
of the friction coefficient so the braking is optimum
there is no way to select different runway braking

 General Problems

=> Q: AFS RUN SLOWLY WHAT CAN I DO

Don't use QEMM(from quaterdek) as memory manager.
A: best speed performance are reached using HYMEM (from microsoft).

=> Q: AFS RUNS SLOWLY ON MY MACHINE, ESPECIALLY IN TEXTURED 3D.
       WHAT CAN I DO?

A: Try a lower setting. Also try using
F2 to change to IFR window.

=> Q: AIRPLANE GOES ON UNCONTROLED WILD OSCILLATION (PITCH VELOCITY ETC)
       WHAT CAN I DO?

A: Try a lower setting. Also try using
F2 to change to IFR window.
You may be using your computer without turbo mode,
engage turbo mode to make processor to go faster!

=> Q: I GET NO 3D VIEW BUT SIMULATOR WORK FINE WHY?

A: no outside view option selected try a higher setting

=> Q: FLY NOW LOCKS UP WHEN I RUN IT.

A: Try running AFS with the "nosound" option. If this works, then
chances are it's a sound card problem. Run SETUP and make sure
       your card settings are correct.
A: Be sure that you have at least 580K of free conventionnal memory

=> Q: MY JOYSTICK ISN'T RESPONDING IN THE simulator. WHAT'S WRONG?

A: check that it's calibrated. If your joystick is connected to your
soundcard, make sure the joystick port jumper is ENABLED on the card.
Some soundcards have this disabled by default.

=> Q:  WHY DOES AFS DOESN'T RUN UNDER WINDOWS 3.1 ?

A: Because AFS shouldn't be run under Windows,
it isn't recommended to try a computer hangup may occure.

=> Q:  WHY DOES AFS DOESN'T RUN UNDER WINDOWS 95 ?

A: under win95 try opening a dos session with at least 590k of
free conventional memory including all needed drivers, the
best solution is to make a win 95 dos boot floppy disk.
Plans are to developp for win95 and 3D cards in near futur
IT does work under win 95 but requires a lot of conventional
memory and may be a little slower

=> Q: NO VESA VIDEO BIOS AVAILABLE ERROR

A: Your video board probably does not have vesa video bios.
try to use UNIVESA from Kendall Bennett in order to emulate
       a vesa video bios.
