                               Mdesign v2.33
                      Manufacturing System Design for
                           Technology Education
                 _________________________________________

Manufacturing System Design (Mdesign) provides technology education
teachers and students with an environment for planning, analyzing and
controlling a manufacturing system. The program steps through constructing
a bill of material, sequencing operations, balancing a production line and
calculating system economics. Mdesign makes it easy to manipulate system
variables and evaluate alternatives. It teaches students how to think and
solve problems by following a structured problem solving process. Students
learn to manage resources and time and use math to aid decision making.
Forms and reports can be generated for collecting data and managing lab
activities. Applications include:

Teacher Directed Projects-- Teachers, use this software to format
material processing steps and generate handouts for classroom use.
Handouts many include: material list with estimated cost, operations
to produce each part, operation process chart showing the most
efficient processes sequence to complete the project and tools or
machines to use. A time line can be generated to schedule daily
activities and monitor student progress. Use forms to organize student
     note-taking during demonstrations.

Student Designed Projects(Individual Projects)-- Students can organize
their plans by breaking down their design into parts that need to be
produced then list the processes and tools needed to fabricate each
part. The software will automatically generate the most efficient
operation process by grouping equal process so students can increase
the efficiency and quality of fabrication. Forms and reports can be
used by both teachers and students to analyze proposed plans and
     monitor progress.

Manufacturing Activities-- Designing a manufacturing system requires
many decisions that affect the quality and cost of a product. This
software steps students through this design process so they can
logically build a system and see the results of decisions. Forms and
reports can be generated to communicate operations to work cells,
collect data on system performance, analyze performance and make
     changes to optimize the system.

Use Agreement________________________________________________________

Mdesign is a "Shareware program" and is provided at no charge to the user
for evaluation. Teachers may use Mdesign free of charge for curriculum
planning and to develop instructional aids. Teachers must be the sole user
of the software for the expressed purpose of developing handouts or visuals
for classroom instruction. Instructional aids are limited to forms and
reports generated by Mdesign in hardcopy form.

For classroom, student, personal, or non-educational use, Mdesign must be
registered. A single computer registration fee will license one copy for
use on any one computer at any one time. A classroom site license is
available for multiple computers, 2-20, located in a single room.

Feel free to share Mdesign with your friends, but please do not modify or
alter it in any way. All registered users will receive a copy of the
latest version of Mdesign and a printed manual.

Mdesign Setup________________________________________________________

For best performance, Mdesign program files should be installed on a
hard disk. To setup the program:

   1. Insert the SETUP Disk in drive A.
   2. From DOS type A:\SETUP then press <Enter>
   3. Follow on-screen installation program instructions.

The SETUP program will install the main program files on the drive and
directory specified in the drive option window. The default directory is
C:\Mdesign. Files installed during setup include:

Documents:

	README.TXT-- This File
	MANUAL.TXT-- User manual
ORDER.TXT-- Order form for registering Mdesign

Program Files:

	MDESIGN.EXE- Start-up program
	YDNIC_2.EXE- Main program
 	VBDRT10a.EXE- VBDOS run time library
	MD_MODE.SYS- system initializtion file.
	PRTSET.CFG- Printer setup data

Utility:

ISAMREPE.EXE- Utility to recover corrupt data.
