QWKfo beta-version 0.2 Release: 7/22/94

DISTRIBUTION:

This program is FREELY DISTRIBUTABLE. What that means is that
QWKfo can be uploaded to bbs's or ftp sites (in this original archive format) or
published on CDROM compilations as long as only reasonable fees are charged for
modem time, etc.

BACKGROUND:

I actually started this program to learn more about Windows C++
programming. Obviously, I got lost somewhere along the way.
QWKfo is still written in C++, but it will not run in Windows
(see <FUTURE FEATURES>).

QWKfo INFO:

THIS VERSION IS FREEWARE! I make no guarantees. If your system explodes
after you run this program, don't come crying to me.

QWKfo is designed for people (like me) who keep many old .QWK
packets and occasionally quickly need to know a couple things
about each, such as: date created, how many messages total, or
which subboards have messages in the packet itself. QWKfo saves
the time of booting up your feature-filled (ie: slow) offline
reader to check for such info. Enjoy!

DOCUMENTATION:

QWKfo only takes the filename (.qwk extention is unnecessary.)
as a command line paramenter.
	ie: C>qwkfo bbsname[.qwk]

QWKfo will automatically figure out the compression format of
the .qwk packet (ONLY LZH/LHA and PKZIP formats are supported!
If you want other formats, please email me a .qwk file encoded
with that format, and msdos copy of the compressor/decompressor,
etc.)

If given a legal filename, QWKfo will spout back in a
(hopefully) formatted fashion the grit about your qwk-packet:
bbsname, sysop name, time/date created, number of messages, and
subboard names. Some qwk-mailers (the programs the bbs' use to
make .qwk files) send info about only subboards with new
messages, some send info about all subboards (lame if they have
like 250 subboards.) QWKfo doesn't differentiate between the
two, yet. The next version will display ONLY new
message-subboards. Until then, you might want to pipe qwkfo to
more by typing:
	C>qwkfo bbsname[.qwk] | more

This will allow you to display the output a page at a time,
instead of having it soar down the screen.

KNOWN BUGS:

None yet. Please email <gbartoli@delphi.com> if you see any
(also, if you could uuencode and send your qwkpacket, I would
really appreciate it.)

WHERE TO GET THE LATEST VERSION:

On the net, it should be in:
		oak.oakland.edu
		(login: anonymous, password: you@netsite.com)
		       your email address! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
in the pub/msdos/offline directory. The file format will be
"QWKFOxx.ZIP" with the version number being "xx".

FUTURE FEATURES:

	o Windows version
o Date rename for archiving purposes (ie: having more than one
		QWK file.)
	(ie: QWKBBS.QWK -> QW072294.QWK ... the 072294 meaning
		07/22/94.)
o File manipulation commands (delete, move, copy, etc.)
	o Full-screen file selector.
	o Spawn qwk-reader
o Display only subboards with messages (<- should have been in
		this release, sorry folks.)

BETA-TESTERS:

I will be beta-testing QWKfo myself, but since you were
interested (or stoned) enough to read this entire document, let
me tell you about what I >DO< need beta-testers for. I'm writing
a full-fledged QWK-reader for windows. I should be ready to
beta-test it the second week of August, '94. So if you've got
some time on your hands, an email address, and know how to
uuencode/decode - send me a note! All beta-testers will receive
a registered version of my QWKreader. My email address is
printed at the top of this document, so drop me a note!
